PGerst convinced me to go with this shot in the Chaos challange

It didn't quite become a PB but it is my 3rd highest scoring shot. More importanly, it is my highest placing shot in a challenge so thanks Paul.

Yo_Spiff gave me some great advice and guidance for my Weathered entry. It's not going as well as I had hoped and probably won't make my profile page. But that doesn't matter as it was a significant improvement on what I was going to enter and it is one of my favourite PP efforts. Thanks Steve.

This sub-club has helped me and for that I'm very thankful.

ETA - Paul I'm about to PM my First Entry submission for your feedback when you can.

Cheers,
Phil.

BTW, the shoehorn fly is doing quite well these days, enjoying his retirement and a place of honor atop my monitor.

Test shots at dinner. We went out to the stockyards and I grabbed Steve's camera (mine suffered from dead batteries) and my cell phone to take a shot of our dinner.

Guess which one is which.....

It would not have had to suffer if you'd charged them. Fortunately, the pain was brief, and the prognosis for recovery is positive.

BTW, I think you meant to post this over in this thread

The first one is Steve's camera and the second one (clearest) is your cell camera???? The reason for me choosing this is because my bet is that with Steve's camera, the focus would have been too close to get a clear focus so, the cell phone shot might have come out clearer???? Ok...tell me I'm wrong! LOL

You're wrong. Maybe if I smeared vaseline on my lens, the 50D could have taken the left hand shot. I had the EF-S 17-85 on it at the time, which has a closest focusing distance of about 15 inches.

The giveaway here is DOF... The sensor on a cell is WAY to small to ever get any real DOF with it, so the right hand picture simply couldn't have been taken with a cell phone camera unless the blur was added in post. :)

This is off-topic, but just wondering...

Is the "Hoffbrau Haus" still in the stockyards??

One of the best steaks I ever had in my life!

Not sure. It does not sound familiar offhand and I don't see it listed on the official stockyards web site.

Nope, moved long time ago to University. It's over by the Zoo now but the food is just as good as ever.

Take Spiffy for one of those bacon-wrapped, broiled-in-butter, slabs o' beef. He can thank me later!

LOL...knew I was wrong! :) Just don't smear vaseline on your lens to prove it to me! ;)

The COLOR is the clear giveaway for me!

The left is the cell phone.

1) Chromatic aberrations are extraordinarily high
2) DOF is too shallow and/or focus is not good at all
3) The file names: 2010-07-15-20.49.58 versus IMG_2036

HA, I so know you didn't mean this, but #2 is exactly wrong. Cell phones, because of their small sensor size produce a nearly infinite DOF, the left picture is a great example of that, particularly pay attention to the reflections in the glass..

I would but he will order chicken and I would be the one order the bacon-wrapped, slabs o' beef or better yet Prime Rib. He isn't a big beef person but I sure am a true TEXAN at heart and I love me some cows. Mmmmm but prefer them to be butchered and cooked rather than mooing and smelly.
