Really, Brennan, your arsenal of skies is impressive. They certainly look, uh, natural. Honest, we do get some blue skies in S.F. once in a while.

Yes, a weekend shoot would work well. I'd even learn how to turn my cell phone on to receive.

Someone needs to set one of these up on a weekend! :)

Safety in numbers, I say!

I'm sorry I missed you guys, but glad I had the chance to meet you Alice. Comming in from Walnut Creek I saw the bank of fog over the hills and knew that grey whit skies were the order of the day, so since these shots are just for fun I tried overexposing the skies and cut them out in photoshop. Not too convincing but a fun excercise. Guess which one is not cut and pasted blue.

Next time we plan with sunny days and cell phones.

Here are some aerial views so you can plan your route. :)

It was pretty crowded at "Free Day" at the Academy, but I looked around and found BrennanOB and we swapped Rebel notes for a while and then did some photography. Expect the others were also there, but never did find them. Next time, perhaps pink carnations would do the recognition trick... Maybe the others will check in and we can swap near-miss stories. In any event, it was a fun day. Glad it happened.

Well? Did you people meet up? Did you have fun?

Hello & Good Morning,

I hope that each of you will be able to join us today as I'm looking forward to meeting you.

I plan on being in San Francisco from 10'ish.
I'll send you my cell phone number in a Private Message, should you want to contact me or meet a little earlier, otherwise I'll be at the Academy by 1:30.

The Santa Rosa is a Ferry (Pre GG Bridge) that has been turned into a 'State Park' wonderful views and a great place to have lunch! It's located just across the street from the Justin Herman Plaza at the foot (Hmmm - "Feet") of Market St.,

Look forward to seeing lots of Bay Area people at the Academy of Science in San Francisco later today!

Sorry! Hope everything turns out OK.

If things go according to plan I'll be there with Isaac and another friend and her daughters.

Looks as if you will be coming in style!

Should be a nice day tomorrow to wander around San Francisco with a camera.

A block away is the Sony Metreon where abstract shapes abound. The ball park is not to far away.

I have a polarizer I can hold in front of my camera ... might that help? I'm pretty limited in the way of adjustments with my camera.

I'm rather limited myself. Last time I just brought a towel to wipe off fingerprints on the display glass before putting my camera lense up to it.

We should stick with this plan. 1:30pm at the front door.

Academy Address:
California Academy of Sciences
875 Howard Street (between 4th & 5th Streets)
San Francisco, CA 94103-3009

Sounds like a plan. There are lots of things to photograph in the area after the Academy. A building at 6th and Howard is an artwork in progress and a photographer's delight until they tear it down... This is just the 'tip of the iceberg' of things hanging off this structure.

See you on August 4th.

Where's your net access going?

Was shot in the old location even with poor lighting. I'm moving so I'm unplugging my internet sometime tomorrow morning.

According to the website the hearts are going to be taken down in September and start being auctioned for charity in November. Seems odd that they wouldn't all be up if they are going to remove them in just two months.

EDIT: You added the part about the ones in the Sunset. According to the map there are four. Those were the ones I was thinking of plus the one over by SFSU. I've never seen that one either.

I don't believe that all the hearts are actually up yet. I'm still waiting for them to put the 3 in the Sunset district up.

I saw several walking from Chinatown past Union Square ... there's a couple in front of Macy's. They are about five feet high and wide, maybe 18" thick, and variously decorated.

I remembered reading about the Hearts in San Francisco project when they first started installing them and a couple of times after but I've never actually seen one. I figured they were all downtown. Now looking at that map I see there are at least 5 hearts in areas that I frequently travel. I wonder why I've never seen one.

I just asked a friend of mine who, according to the map, lives right near several. She hasn't seen them either. Very odd.
