The k1000D is being shipped and some folks have it already. Just awaiting news and specs on the K10D (or whatever they will name it).

From what I heard one of the reasons is that when you only want to sell the dSLR, you can't. Sony forces you to sell/promote the whole productline of p&s too (not all shops want that).

That explains why they sell Playstaion games at Ritz.

While sony makes some great product, their customer service leaves you wanting more. Sent in a Mini Dv player that was under warranty took them 4 months to get it back and still had problems. Ended up going back to the retailer and raising Cane and trading to Canon. This is not only with their camera lines but all products. Good products bad service.

You'll have to post them off-site unless you pay for membership here ;-)

I took the plunge and paid upfront, so I will post them here once I get logged in on the other computer where they're stored. I'm still learning the ropes of digital photography and only have a few photos so far, but hey, it's a start...

I am an old fashion guy. I like the cameras that has maximum manual control and less technology as possible... I don't like film cameras, pain and expensive to develop and wait for the results after the film is printed.

I don't like anti-shake mechanism personally. I also don't like the LCD viewfinder (WARNING Personal opinions only).

I hate to see a machine that you just tell what to shoot and it gets the picture little or no help from its user. Unfair advantage.

Holding the machine steady enough and using faster shutter speeds possible is the key for clear pictures.

I can only guess many people will think I am crazy, but I really do like to shot my own shots with my own hands and eyes as much as possible.

My Pentax ist DL is perfect machine for me right now. It gives me enough challenges :) I am not sure if I ever buy a camera with anti-shake technology, or if I do, I am not sure if I would use it...

:/

That 10 Megapixel Pentax definately looks inviting. Not that I've spent a fortune on glass or anything, but it would be nice to have the option down the track of moving up without having to start from scratch with memory cards/lenses etc.

As for Pentax's cameras - I'm pretty happy with the IstDS - I think it's provided me with excellent value for money. It's easy to use, has a great range of features for the money and the image quality is, on the whole, very solid. On the negative side, the autofocus mechansism seems to me to be significantly slower than the only other DSLR I've used (admittedly that was a 20D, which retails for about twice as much in Australia). Also the high ISO performance could stand a little improvement in comparison with Canon's cameras. Oh, and accessories/lenses are, unfortunately slightly more expensive/harder to find than the alternatives.

My experience is the complete opposite. Bad products, great service, but I will not buy anything Sony ever again. The reason is that all the products that I bought from Sony failed within their warranty period. I recently said this in another disc. about a failing Vaio notebook too:

Sony DSC-P1 digital camera had to be returned five times in its lifetime, three times within one year and it is still not ok.
The battery for this Sony has been replaced three times.
Sony Playstation failed two times in a row and has been replaced two times.
And recently a big expensive wide badass tv suddenly went black and was at Sony for four weeks where they found five bad things with it (three design faults and two failing components).
And a Sony wireless headphone for the TV that failed, but as I didn't like it anyway I just threw it away.
So everything that I recently bought from Sony failed.

This used to be different 10 years ago. My parents have a 30 year old Sony Radio sytem (components) that still works great. The amplifier failed after 25 years and it was replaced by a Denon one. The previous Sony TV's had no problems in 10 years time and my own Sony stereo (15 years old by now) also still works flawlessly.

(I am sure that now that I've said that both will blow in a couple of days)

Heard a rumour here in Oz that even the new K100D (with 'shake-reduction') has the 10MP sensor, but that it only records images at 6.1MP. According to the rumour, this is in some way related to the shake-reduction system, which is apparently different to the gyroscopic systems used by others. If this is true, it is significant because the power required to run the gyroscopic systems has an effect on battery life. Could all be bullshit, but the store owner I spoke to had just been talking to the local Pentax importer, so who knows - maybe there's something to it.

I am really waiting for pentax to come out with better cameras, they do seem to lag behind a bit on production, the last months i been thinking of stepping over to another manufacturer, how ever since i do trust Pentax as i have the fantasy that their production lines are like Mercedes (less made but mare attention paid)

can't wait for the 10m/pixels

As far as i understand the pentax anti shake has no affect on battery life. The sensor is mounted in between electromagents is completely free floating. Well that is how i understood the definition anyway.

I am about to move up do DLSR and i cannot decide between the nikon d5o and this new k100d.
