Besides the Vegas strip what are some other places good for taking a photo or two?

Well, since you said 'Nevada' and not the Vegas area, I'm going to suggest Lake Tahoe. You'll come away with more than a photo or two!

While it isn't in Nevada, Death Valley is closer to Vegas. There are some great landscapes around that area.

I just recently drove from San Francisco to Las Vegas. Given your location I don't think you'll be driving. That is unless you have a very interesting car and why the hell haven't we seen photos of it.

But I digress. Assuming you're just going to be based in the Las Vegas area, there are many good places to take photographs. You've already mentioned the strip. There are lots of opportunities there. I would suggest that you keep in mind the strip is more than just the buildings and all those pretty lights. Take a look at the multitudes of people walking around. Each one of them has a story too.

Valley of Fire State Park. It was Nevada's first state park. You'll need a car to visit. It's about 45min northeast of Las Vegas. You'll find some really amazing rock formations, Indian petroglyphs and pictographs, broad desert vistas, and if you're lucky some interesting wildlife. There are hiking trails but depending on the temp and your physical abilities they might not be something you want to do. The scenic drive through the park is excellent though. Highly worth the visit. Valley of Fire

Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. This area is just a short drive down Charleston Blvd to the west of the strip. It also has some pretty amazing rock formations and a nice scenic drive. If you are into hiking or rock climbing this is the place to go. There are even companies that offer 4x4 adventure excursions. I didn't go on one but will for sure the next time. (We did go a little ways down some of the trails in our 4x4 but the SO was worried I would mess up the truck. But that's another story) The conservation area is also home range to wild burros. We didn't see them but some people we know who went the day before came back with nice photos. Red Rock Canyon NCA

Hoover Dam. This is a no brainer. It's such a spectacle it has to be visited. It's about 30min outside Las Vegas. Hoover Dam

Mt. Charleston & Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest. On the other side of Red Rock Canyon is the national forest. Aside being a photogenic mountain area it's often much cooler than the valley. If you're visiting Las Vegas during the summer it's worth coming up here just to get out of the heat for the day. During the winter it snows at the higher elevations. Mt. Charleston

Well, that's enough to get you started.

Thanks a lot. I finally have other things to do in Nevada other than throwing my money away.
