Before opening Elements. Try opening a folder and select an image. Right click that image. On the drop down menu select 'open with'. Click that, select PS Elements and your image should open PS Elements up with the file selected in the editing area.
Try that and see how it works from there. You should be able to open any folder from PSE when you have it up and running.

You should be able to open in bridge, top of Elements a icon of a folder with a magnifier with Br on it..

You can also open Jpeg files in camera Raw using bridge..

I have Elements 7 and I don't think I have Bridge in that. At least there is no folder like you describe that I can see. The latest version is PSE 8 Maybe Bridge in in that version?

I could be wrong, but I thought I had Bridge in Elements 4, it has been awhile though..

I'm not sure what the problem is Tom. I use Elements 8 all the time and all I have to do is click on file>open> and then go to a file folder I want, double click on the file folder and then double click on an image file. Wish I could help!
