Hello everyone,

I was looking forward to entering this into the free study, and had it entered since the beginning of the month. I really do like this image, and I have been looking forward to sharing it with everyone in the free study.

Sadly I've fallen in love with a younger image :). I'm afraid I don't just want to closet this picture, so I thought I'd share it anyway, and welcome comments of all sorts.

Half of the reason I love this photo was because my friend was wearing an orange shirt that perfectly matched the goose's coloration, and made an unreal back-drop. I really am very sad to not be entering this.

Enjoy (hopefully :) )

You could have used a ghost account to enter it. ;-)

Thats one evil looking goose.

That's quite wicked looking. The orange-on-orange is fabulous. The border is doing you no favors however, as a keyline it's too heavy/too close to the edge (it's usually awkward when the keyline and the space-outside-keyline are about the same width) and it's too weird where it hides behind the goose.

Orange is my favorite color! This is gorgeous. I love how crisp and clean it is. I agree with Bear about the border... not a fan of how it cuts off at the goose.

The border patrol? BTW, I've abandoned using borders in challenges. I never get dinged for not having one, but if I include one, I always get at least one comment saying it does not suit the image. I figure each comment like that represents a handful of people that voted lower because of the border.

The goose is beautiful with orange! Great catch! It's fun to take images like this and slide through the hue to see them in every color.

You guys are making me feel better and better about my new entry..

Thank you so much for looking and commenting! As that's usually the best bit of challenges for me anyhow.

Bob and his well-disliked border can now retire peacefully to my portfolio :)

Beautiful image. I would personally not have deducted anything for the border but it doesn't add anything in this case as have been mentioned. I particularly like the detail around the eye and beak. The crop is also appropriate.

I have arrived at the exact same conclusion concerning borders! I will be very particular about using them from now on.

Yeah I have used a few borders but I know they have hurt in the past and not sure if they have helped so I suppose I should just not use them.

Back to the original topic of this thread, I think that the photo is very striking. The clarity is excellent, and that is one wicked beak!
