Love to see the "how did they do that's" after the challenge - I will learn a lot from this one.... |
Plllleeease, vote as if its legal, and challenge the shot if you have doubts. I have the feeling that alot of people are voting down images they don't understand how they were done.
There is nothing wrong with challenging a shot to the site council, just vote as if it was legal. |
I can't see how anyone can vote guessing that it might not be legal. That make's no sense. I agree, please vote as if it is 100% legal then click the button on the bottom to report and why you think it is not legal. I don't vote on the majority of the challenges that I am in but have seen some in here that I hope come with explanation's because I am awe struck at some of these.

@Ecce
I am exactly where you are right now. I also feel like my picture was pretty good. Not and 8 or anything, but I really got discouraged when I signed on this morning to check how it started and found that it was below 4.5. Really!?!?!?! And to make matters a little worse, I only had one comment and it was that it was a nice shot. If the shot is so nice, why is it a 4.5 average? It has worked it's way up to just above a 5, but I don't know what is wrong with the picture. Still only have 1 comment. I have only just started here at DPC so I haven't submitted that many entries (6) and I have only received 27 comments, most of which are not helpful at all. I hope the rest of the week goes better, for you and for me. |

27 comments in 6 entries equals 4.5 comments per entry, one of which you were DQ'ed. By my standards that is a decent percentage. Only the top images usually get the most comments, because they are nice. People tend to not want to put other photo's down.
Before this next comment I would like to first say welcome to the site (mainly so I don't come off looking like an ass), but (here it is) you've never commented on anyone else's images in your 810 votes cast. Great!!! Your voting and participating in the community but don't come on here and put the site and the people on it down for something that you yourself are not even doing!
Edit: Also, if you didn't know, there is a little check box that let's others know if their comment was helpful or not to you. If you use it they will come.

I think this might be at least part of the problem. Personally, when commenting on images, I will NOT comment on images where the photographer has not marked any of his comments as helpful. It just makes me feel like I am wasting my time, because it is an indication to me that they might not read them. This only applies for pictures after the challenge has already come out with results, but still...that is one easy change you could make.
My personal philosophy is when I am feeling bad about not getting enough comments...I go out and comment more! First off it makes me feel better, and second off it makes me a little less of a hypocrite :-) |

I'd rather have someone put my photo down (in a constructive and nice way if possible, but a simple "your lighting sucks" for example would get the point across as well) than get no comments. |

You are right about not having checked that I thought they were helpful comments. I do appreciate the comments that I do get. I guess what I am getting at is that when you leave a 1 or a 2 you should leave a comment about what it was that made it the worst picture out of the bunch. And when I see that I end up with 4 or 5 votes at 1 and 2, I just want to know what they are thinking. |

Offtopic maybe, i don't know how you guys look at it, but i never gave a 1 so far i believe. To get a 1, a photo would have to be really really really bad and have no artistic value at all. Haven't seen not one photo like that so far. |

After my recent favorite photo did well and ribboned in full portrait - I had 6 votes 3 and under as almost all winning images have votes 3 and under (sadly it is an exception when one does not). I guess I'll start to look at 1's, 2's and 3's that my photo is deemed so threatening to someone else's entry that they feel compelled to vote it down. Yep, that's my story and I'm sticking to it :-)

Not to mention once you have carefully seen ( and commented on a good percentage of ) every other image in a challenge, you can see your own work with a cold eye and don't really have to have the missing comments. ( except those pesky ones and twos, those i want explained) |

If it's a toss up between a "6" or a "7"... go with the "7" guys and girls :-)
Be generous... or Karma will get you!
I gave a 10, two 9's and a couple of 8's. Hope it helped someone out there feel better. |

If I get one more person scolding me in all caps for having multiple images in my "double" shot, I will find you and force feed you your camera. How about you just tell me if you like it or not instead of riding in on your caps lock horse just to announce that you think I DNMC. mmm kay?
jeez...

That's exactly how I felt about my shot in the night challenge. I had tons of great comments and I believe it finished under 5.3. Loved it!!
