Why?

I don't get it... why wouldn't you want people to know who you are during voting when you comment if they'll be able to see who you are after voting anyway?

Maybe it's a n00bcakes question, and maybe i'm rly stupid, but I do often see people hidden during voting!

Because you don't want frustrated photographers sending you nasty emails telling you you're an idiot or know nada about taking photographs after commenting on their images.
