Dear Friends:
I have gotten SO many comments on my photo (thank you thank you THANK YOU) and well more than half of them (as you correctly guessed) mentioned the small size. I just wanted to explain what happened. I took the photo at 11:30 last Sunday night, and quickly got it ready for submission. In compressing it to make it under 150k, I reduced the size in photoshop. What I didn't realize is how SMALL it actually was. When I looked at the submitted photo on the DPC site, I thought it looked small, but I assumed with the new DPC format that ALL submitted photos looked that small. It wasn't until after the challenge began and I looked at all the other submissions that I realized how little it really was.
When I read forum posts in which people complain about comments on their photo, it frustrates me. The fact of the matter is, if there is a glaring error in your photo, people are going to mention it, as well they should. My photo is a perfect example of that. From the comments, it was very obvious to me that the size of my photo DID matter, even though it was an accident. It is amazing to me how all of you left such kind, and thoughtful comments, even while mentioning the small size. I sincerely appreciate your support and kind words. Every one of them.
Have a lovely day! :)
Liana

Hey Liana!! Would luv to see that shot bigger now that the challenge is over... I really liked it alot, and obviously others did too.
Do you have it uploaded somewhere you can link this thread to? Or could you redo the size and upload it?
Thanks!

I'd like to see it larger too.
I think it's a great shot - looks beautifully taken - I just find it hard to really appreciate the detail at that size.
I did wonder about the choice on size so it's nice to find out the reasons it was posted that way.

I liked the small size too! You can see from my comment that I instantly invented a reason to justify it :). It's what I do best :P.

Liana, I love that shot... and your sense of humor... it's reminiscent of your dirt (cheap) shot from the advertising challenge. Please do share a larger version if you have it available.
Thanks,
Terry

Hi Everyone- Thanks for the responses. I will post a full-size version soon. (I am currently trapped under a mound of wrapping paper and gift cards!)

Hi-
If it works, here is the full-sized version, as well as another one I almost used. The page seems to be a little slow to load, so it seems a little fuzzy in the beginning.
Thanks again for your support!
Liana

Oh, by the way, you have to click on the small image to see the full-sized image. :) |

It's not too slow on a fast connection...looks great. All the folks complaining that they wanted detail can relax now; I myself liked the idea, and would have been entertained were it a line drawing (try "Find Edges" filter). |
