Hello,

Suddenly without any bumps or drops my 3+ year old SB800 is doing something strange. When I turn it on it makes an electronic buzzing sound for about a second.

It will then settle down and seems ok. However, when I zoom my lens in and out ...you can hear the flash adjusting as normal but...if I go slow it hits a spot and then the sound starts again. It this stops but then then flash no longer adusts to the lens zooming.

It flashes ok but I know if it is not adjusting - it is not working correctly.

Anyone else had this issue?

Edit: just snapped two test shots. One close up and the other at about 15 feet. Both using the flash that did not seem to be adjusting to the zoom. Both photos are exposed perfectly as usual...

EDIT 2: Fooled with it some more. After turning it on it will buzz...zzz zz zz zzzz and then stop. I then zoom my lens and the flash screen shows 2ft....7ft etc...working fine...then during a zoom it will zzz zz zz zzzz again. When this happens...the flash screen distance stays frozen on one distance.

Upon turning off and then on all this will happen again.
