From that tutorial: "Now set the layer to soft light"

That makes this technique illegal.

Ok, I have to say the truth, I didn't read all the tutorial. But if the tutorial is illegal, the plugin can work without doing layers so it's still legal !!

Also, I think that some technic used in the process of topaz adjust are not legal in basic editing.

The plug-in just automatically runs through the steps in the tutorial, making it illegal, unless I'm misunderstanding the author's description?

Ok, I just edit the script, and there is a layer in soft light.
Then, I got a question, how do you know the process of topaz adjust and are you sure that there is no steps like this ?

No, they cannot be sure. Topaz is not a script, but a stand-alone filter, so it's not possible to "see inside it." That's probably the biggest problem with a "process based" set of rules. You need to rule on the "legality" of every new filter and technique, and sometimes you have two filters that do the same thing, but one is legal and one is not. The alternative is a "results-based" set of rules. Here, you don't care *how* the user got where they got, just that the result is legal. There was, once upon a time, talk of making the Basic Rules results-based, but agreement on the specifics was never reached.

So if someone do a stand-alone filter with this one, in a way we don't know what's inside, it could be allowed ?
Pay for topaz or stay with your curves...
