Thanks for the support smardaz!
It's a rather redicilous and absurd turnout of a normal conversation here. I admitted to have used a brush tool in a basic editing challenge. Got DQ'd for it. And I do understand my terrible crime that I dared to submit it anyway.
And now the complete conservative wing wants me on death row?
Maybe our general tolerance in The Netherlands is a bit different....
I probably have to go to a special clinic now to get debrushed before I can mingle in society again. :-)

If it's because of the selective desaturation, this can be achieved with a global hue/saturation adjustment, so is perfectly legal.
What concerns me more is your admission that you broke the rules knowingly and intentionally. |
Agree with your concerns, this makes it harder for those of us who struggle even with Basic rules,I ask myself how many other occassions has this happened with this photographer and how wide spread is the practice, It just brings the challenges into disripute. Shame on you. |
I absolutely agree. This leads back to another thread where I was wondering about how to best segregate the best PS'ers from us noobs. This even further goes to show that a really good PS'er can achieve "Advanced" results, and make them look "Basic".
Totally makes me wonder exactly what I am up against here. |

Sorry if I am out of line, but often tone is difficult to judge in email/forum format.
Was this a shot at me? Or a general comment regarding why people would bother messing with the rules, just to add a virtual ribbon to their virtual mantle? |

Nah, not a shot at you. General statement. I have no reason to attack anyone here. |

good god! am i the only one who read the sarcasm in pjotre7's comments?? i would agree that knowingly breaking rules is a bonehead move that got him what he deserved, but some of you like Jac and Love are really blowing this out of proportion! I mean one shot entered and suddenly he's a self centered narcicist? get a grip. You ever make a decision then wish you hadn't afterwards? Bet you have, were you bold enough to admit to it? |
Now now Jason, how come you didn't see the sarcasm in my posts? It's a choice you made, I figure. How high is that horse you ride? Don't fall off. :) |

Geeez - I leave for a few hours and come back to this???? He cheated - knowingly. I have every right to be upset with anyone who does it on purpose. I have to give him some credit though - at least his name isn't Nuzzer. : ) edited to add: or Rikki

It's about 10 feet tall and it's name is "common sense". The viewers and SC are pretty dang good at sniffin out a rule breaking picture, as was the case here. Now all the worry warts want to act like there is some secret society of cheaters winning ribbons.

Your name suits you... guess I should change mine to STFU
I've said my peace - I'm done. Now, to find some lovely landscape for the next challenge (note: basic editing). |

Submitted my landscape already, uploaded straight from the camera which I put on b&w mode first. Even resizing the image to 800 made me feel guilty.
Something is terribly wrong with me....... |

Well I take it that your attitude originally lead from your perception that the rules were not taken seriously or applied fairly. I guess this thread has at least shown, contrary to that, they are taken very seriously indeed. We live, we learn. Lets move on. |

No sarcasm in that one, it was to the point and quite honest.
You know what gets to me Jason? It's people on the net trying to make themselves look good by blasting someone who speaks his mind about cheaters or the thought of cheating in a thread about the subject. There are trolls and then there are those who say anything to make themselves look good but never seem to grasp the subject at hand, which in this thread was a clear case of someone getting caught trying to circumvent the rules just because he thought almost everyone else was cheating. What does that say about his personality and character, or yours? Not saying you're a cheat but defending one is almost as bad.

Just for clarification, is it legal in Basic to make adjustments to ONE channel only? If it is, that would not be the whole image uniformly. |

Yes, and adjusting all the reds or blues throughout the image is not selective. "Uniformly" is not a requirement of Basic (adjusting the midtones or highlights is not uniform either). |

Not sure what is meant by "making myself look good"....
But I do owe you an apology, I forgot that when you are typing, you're speaking your mind But when I am typing I am blasting someone, not speaking my mind. And yet oddly, so far I am the only one who hasn't used vulgarities or resorted to name calling. And for the record, I never defended his actions, I said that people were overreacting to his actions. |

It has the same effect on the entire image. |

Hello all,
I'm still highly amazed about all the fuss my public confession created. Maybe I should have choosen different words but since I'm not a native English speaker, I have a limited vocabulary.
I herewith apologize to you all for my mistake. I never did it before and will certainly not do it again.
Also I need to thank you on behalf of my wife. It's been a while since so many strangers had a good look at her behind (views after the challenge now almost doubled compared to during the challenge) Due to the very nice comments and supporting private messages she moves around with a huge smile which probably will last for some time.
In retrospect and after some extra study hours I agree her bottom did not need that much "retoucher" at all.
For the grumpy individuals among us : Don't take life too serious, it's too short.
cheers
Maarten
