So, please, please, offer up some harsh criticism.. What did I do here that caused this to score where it did..
Clearly it didn't exactly BOMB at a 5.8, but I really did expect better, and didn't get much feedback, so don't fear- Go tear into me.. Please :)

ok you asked, and i dont mean this to sound as harsh as it might, but the shot just bores me, for lack of a better adjective. perhaps i should say "does not grab me"? it certainly is out of the ordinary though.....
the lighting is quite nicely done i should add

I actually have a lot of pictures in my challenge entries that fall into this same general category; they depend on an intellectual "pun" or "game" for their conceptual appeal, and they are, analyzed critically, otherwise pretty mundane. In the end, that's just a product shot of a plate, a spork, and a fish, and a fairly banal one at that, competent but uninspired. It's a real *reach*, if you catch my drift? Sort of a forced response to the challenge... In the end, the voters are not particularly impressed.
Here's an OLD example of mine, one of my first entries, in a Movie Titles challenge. You know that great German U-Boat movie, "Das Boot" (The Boat)? And when that sub's conning tower and hull pop out of the water it's pushing this wave in front of it? So I had this brilliant idea and put my boot out on a night when a light snowfall was predicted, and bingo! I was SO impressed with myself...
The voters, of course, gave it two thumbs down; 4.9...
And so it goes. It's mostly death to play these kind of mental games, to create these contrived images...
That's my take on it anyway...

I disagree about the lighting. The subject (spork and fish) are too dark, IMO. |
