Is it common to have PS products load slowly? I see the progress messages, but it does take a while. Maybe I am just spoiled by less intensive editing programs. And on my new Elements, I got a warning that my monitor isn't adjusted correctly and to run it through my calibration software. I don't have any such software and the online ones haven't been too useful. Is it OK to just ignore this for now? Thank you!!

I think the warning is the color gamut? If it's set on sRGB then it's the correct setting.
Adobe products come with a program called Adobe Gamma which is a good way to calibrate your monitor so you can get the correct colors in your pictures.
With my old computer Elements 2 was a lot quicker then when I use PS7. The programs do use a bunch of RAM.
People always say get more memory it's cheap, but as for my old computer then probably better to buy a new one. If you have a newer one more memory should really improve your performance.
Edit: I'll let other people correct me, but this is mainly to bump it up.

Thanks, fadoi. I have a respectable amount of memory, though I do "lock up" occasionally. It just really stands out to me how long it takes any Adobe product to do its initial loading -- even the trial versions. I'll look for the Adobe calibration.

What spec machine do you have? If you have a slow machine, the answer is, yes. :-)
If you haven't already, you might try defragging your hard disk, which may help. |

I think personally I would want at least 512MB RAM 2GHz processor and a lot of hard drive space for scratch disk. Oh yeah and a good graphics card helps too.
That is at least remember. I have 2.7Gb processor and 512Mb RAM and it would be much nicer with more. Nothing worse than being slowed by your machine with stuff like this! |

I mostly use PS Element 2 for editing. Before I mainly used few year old version of Unlead PhotoImpact.
I find PS Element much faster in processing. The older one was ok but when I got my DRebel the processing of the large high resulution files was much to slow. |

I guess I am lucky to have my PC handle any of this AT ALL! I am not at home right now, but I know I have less memory and speed than is really needed I guess, and my video card is pretty poor. I am hoping to get a better PC next year, but then, I also want a new camera. Mmmmmm, need some overtime!!!!!
