Inattention almost cost me a DQ. All of you Mac users out there no doubt appreciate the convenience of iPhoto (or iView if you're so inclined) for sorting through your shots. I typically download straight to iPhoto, pick out a few potential candidates for a Challenge, and maybe crop or rotate to get a better look. Then I duplicate the shot and work on that one in Photoshop. If proof of validation is requested, I just go back to iPhoto and hit the "revert to original" command, then export that image for uploading.
Well, guess who forgot to duplicate the photo before editing? I must have opened the file in Photoshop, done a quick levels adjustment, and absentmindedly hit 'save,' overwriting iPhoto's original. I requested an admin note to preempt all the predicted DQ requests, but my original wasn't original anymore and was promptly rejected. I used a flash media recovery tool, scoured my hard drive, and thankfully found the original (now validated). Turns out that I had done the same thing on my Waiting entry, but that one was recoverable off the Flash card.
I would never intentionally do anything against the rules (it's a virtual ribbon, for crying out loud), but I was really disgusted with myself for creating a situation that almost resulted in a DQ out of my own stupidity. Many thanks to the SC for their patience while I was floundering about- I'm sorry for the trouble! Let this be a lesson to others: pay attention to what you're doing... you can never be too careful!
Oooh... can I make this post any longer? Blah, blah, blah... |
