Im guessing thats just for photoshop? |
15% off that if you are a NAPP member. And yes, that's just PS. |
thanks for reminding me of that discount. It makes the choice a little easier.
I've been trying to find information as to whether CS5 is cross-platform like LightRoom or not. I can't seem to find the answer on the Adobe site. Does anyone have a reference they can point me to? |
It's not cross-platform. You have to buy a fresh copy for each OS, and there's no "cross-grade". I had to plunk down the dough for a full version for my then-new MacBook.
Edit: BUT... you can ask them to do a one-time return on your license to get the other platform version, but you have to sign a pledge of software destruction and cough up some money. I still needed my other copy, so I didn't do that.

I have CS3 Extended and never bothered with CS4, mainly because of $$. Definitely upgrading to CS5 but Im not sure if I want to dish out another $200 for the Extended version. Anybody think Extended is worth the extra $200? I really cant imagine that I would ever need CS5 for its multimedia uses, but there is always that WHAT IF. |

Well, I still need PS on Windows so will leave that one at CS3 and buy the MAC version of CS5 for the MacBook. |

If you just use PS for photo editing, and don't think you'll do anything else, then I skip the extended version. However, if you do graphics editing, illustration, or think you might use video (think 5D, 7D), then it would most likely be worth it.
I've never gone for the Extended, but will do it this time just for the added graphics editing capabilities. |

Also, if you're an educator or a student you can get a better price with an academic discount than by upgrading (particularly if you still have CS3 like I do)

For anyone interested, here is a way you can save some $$$ on CS5. If you don't have any upgrade qualifying previous version, you can purchase CS4 at big discounts at one of these places:
//www.softwaresurplus.com (My wife bought the CS4 Master Collection from them about 18 months ago for $1300)
//www.evaluesoftware.com - they have CS4 Design Premium for $800 after an instant $500 rebate. So if you bought this, you could then upgrade to CS5 Design Premium for an additional $600, a total of $1400 which is $500 cheaper than buying the full product from Adobe for $1900. |

Next question: Is the key supplied legit or cracked? If it's cracked then no upgrade will be possible. |

It's legit. That was my first thought as well. |

Hmm..not bad. My guess CS6 wouldn't have a CS2 upgrade option.
