I have been playing with digital photography for a couple of months now and I would like some feed back. I took this picture of my son at the Houston Museum of Natural Science.

Thanks

Steve

nice shot! I love the look & the lighting is really good. I think a tigher crop would greatly improve this shot. The top left structure thingy is a bit distracting and takes away from the shot.

I agree 100% with Rooster... I love the look and the lighting, but not a big fan of the object in the top left... great shot! :-)

I think if you crop it you'd lose some of the impact because the space around the kid (left and above) really adds to the picture. So instead, I'd use the clone tool to remove the "structure". The lighting against the black background is great.

EDIT: Follow up, since you said you're new and may not know the Clone tool... The best way to approach removing the structure is to start by setting your reference point for cloning on the edge of desk and work upwards. Keep re-adjusting this point as needed until you get a perfect extension of that edge, and then begin working upward from there.

Then after you are done, the area will look repeated (like someone cloned it) so then choose a lot of random reference points and spot clone it to break up the common patterns. Hope that makes sense! :)

Wow nice shot. And again wow, good advice. The framing is good, and the distracting tower should be cloned out. What smart people hang out here.
