..

My wonderful G9 has just had it's final day I'm afraid.

The lens has ground to a halt about halfway in/out...

So, now I think I want to fix this (maybe..), so I want to call/e-mail Canon support, but..

I suspect that there are a few people here who could advise me as to how best approach this.

So, if you have advice, please post it! I need it!

Thanks all..

So essentially your advice is to just to follow their standard procedure, as there is no better option.

You have two cameras listed - 20D and 50D, if you have three professional lenses you can join CPS - canon professional services, and you get a little more expedited service. With either, it seems like you never really get to talk to anyone, call the shots, know what's going on, etc. So there's really not much choice in anyway of handling it (at least that I've found). But even though it's annoying, things seem to get handled well anyway.

Now all I have to do is decide if this cute little bugger is worth fixing @ $159...

If it is the motor that drives the lens in and out of the camera $159 seems reasonable, providing they give you some sort of guarantee with the repair. However I guess this could depend on how used the camera is, If it is well used you could need to worry about what will be next to fail, If it is still fairly new, Then I would say it is alot cheaper than going out and buying a new G-11 or equiv...

CPS is only for CPS approved equipment. Consumer cameras are repaired at a different facility and will not be looked at at NJ or CA repair facilities. CPS membership only gets you expedited repairs and discounts on things that are listed on the CPS approved list.
