Have had a thread earlier about building a new computer but I don't really want to spend the bucks yet (still can't decide on whether to have a PC built with windows 7 or buy a MAC) so have come up with the following.

My programs (Elements 5 and PS3) all used to work well on my computer but then (and it was quite sudden) things slowed down massively. Have had it in to the computer doctor but they couldn't seem to find anything but a bill for me. My computer was a Pentium 4 which is 4 years old. I have limped along with it for way to long with the dvd burner no longer working (it works but would not burn), and the other week a stick of RAM went bad which we initially thought was the motherboard. That's it, had enough, so was going to get a new computer. But, my husbands computer (which is just for using MYOB for business) is a Core 2 Duo which is about 2 years old running XP. We have decided that instead of spending bucks on a new computer we would just have one desktop (he is not computer literate so doesn't use it).

So, here is a few questions for the tech heads to help me with.

The Core 2 has 1 gig of ram (2 x 526 DDR2 800). I have loaded both the PS programs on and they are running crazy fast compared to my machine. I will be adding 2 gigs of ram for $70 but can I keep the current ram if I keep each of the bays even (eg 1 gig cards in yellow slots, 526 gig cards in blue slots? I have an Intel DP35DP motherboard. This will give me 3 gig which will be more than adequate.

TOPAZ - Is ram what makes Topaz process faster? Will 3 gig mean I won't have to wait as long for the bar to move across when I've pushed OK to move back to photoshop or is a faster processor what does this?

Photoshop CS3 and Topaz. Topaz is coming up fine in Elements under filters but does not show in CS3. Had no problem with this on the old machine. Anyone know what I need to do to get it to come up?

HARD DRIVES HELP - The newer computer has two hard drives each 250 gig. I also have two hard drives in the old computer and have moved all files over to one drive to bring to the newer computer. I had it out and ready to put in the newer computer but there's nothing to plug it into (SATA). I have the smaller red ribbon that can come from the other machine (hard drive to motherboard) but how do I hook up the power. Was also wanting to bring the last drive across (500 gig) when I finally ditch the old machine. Can a computer hold 4 hard drives??

Thanks for any help with this - much appreciated.
