Question, for those of you who installed the default Canon EOS util that came with your 7D: do you use it to move images to your HD? If so, does it alter the EXIF as it moves the files, a la that Windows Vista/7 crap? If you don't use that, what do you use? It's been years since I've worked with CF (my earliest Canon P&S used CF, but everything since then has been SD)...do they even make readers for them anymore? I'm thinking I don't want to be popping the CF card in and out as often as I did with my Rebel's SD card, though...curse you Canon! Dual memory formats are pretty well essential these days!

Of course they make card readers still. In fact, with the size of the 7D files you wanna spring for a fast one, and a fast card too. You don't need a utility at all; just open the card like a drive and drag-drop. Only safe thing to do. Safest thing is to right-click-drag-drop and specify "copy", then make sure everything's backed up before you wipe the card.

My card comes out every time I shoot, for transfer, and gets reformatted in-camera every time I put it back in.

Thanks, Robert...of course, I meant to ask if they still make CF card readers. Many of them are SD/Micro SD only. One thing I noticed when simply viewing the camera as an external drive, it did not display the RAWs that I captured along with the JPEGs.

And yes, I didn't spare expense on the CF cards...couple of blazing Sandisk Extremes. 60mb/s read-write. Got to have that to capture that 1080p video, dontcha know. ;-)

Make sure you purchase a good quality CF reader. I have one that does a few different cards and it worked fine for files from my 40d but using the same reader for my 7d ended up with many files getting corrupted on the way. It was a cheap reader. Have been connecting directly to the camera until my new one arrives.
