I'm no expert in fine art, but I would have probably rated this one a few points lower than your actual entry (lighting). Mainly due to the bird not being sharp enough. I think if the brid as was sharp as the object he jumped from, it would have been more pleasing to my eyes. |

Totally the reverse of what giantmike said. This one tells a story in a nice minimalist manner. |

I actually like the oof bird, however, having the swingset in focus makes it look like a metering mistake. I would have cropped out the swingset and just had the oof bird with the cool oof background.

Hmm, I can get behind what vawendy says. I think it is the swingset being in focus that throws me off, and makes me see the bird as an error. Without the swingset, I may have felt different. |

I gave your entry a 9 and would probably vote this a 5 or 6. Of course many of my high votes didn't score well altogether |

Yeah, well, most skilled photogs would be on the bird, not the swingset. This is Different! Ergo fine art. |

You have just confirmed for me that fine art requires you to not have skill! ;)

The bird's kind of neat, but your entry was definitely one of my favourites. It's a beautiful image, and if I ruled the site, it would have gotten a ribbon. |

Oh dear, I have caused Dr. Achoo to split an infinitive; but even worse, he has made an illogical inference. Most people would not notice this. |

Josh...just to drop in my own two cents from the Peanut Gallery, I liked your FA entry far better as a choice for that particular challenge.
However, your bird photo is quite a worthy addition for your portfolio no matter how you or anyone else may wish to categorize it.

To deftly note my infinitive, you have. Different! Ergo "fine grammar"! ;P
BTW, I mildly prefer the bird over Josh's entry.

A couple are driving along in their pickup and the gal looks to the guy and says, "we used to sit close together. We never do that anymore!" The guy looked and her and replied, "I wasn't the one that moved."
:)
Still luv ya Mae!

Energy/Range/Story: 5/6/4
Composition/p.o.v./manner: 4/4/4
Aesthetics/Technical: 4/3
Presentation:4
Total: 4.22
Vote: 4
Comment: The choice of focus/shutter speed does, IMO, not fulfill to the inherent demands of the image. All the dynamics are with the starling, yet the tip of the swing set is set up to dominate both our attention and 100% of the dof. This together with the inexplicably large space allotted the bokeh erodes any other point(s) of interest.
As a fine art entry, the photo holds no particular interest beyond these somewhat obvious givens. |

Hahahahahaha! I read that while I was driving in my car, and we almost ended up buying a new one!
But, yes, Jason...You are right and I totally deserved that! Big hugs!
Josh, the truth is that photography of any genre is more a test of your character than your score. ;-) |

water 6, bird 7, but I didn't vote.
It's a starling. Shakespeare's bird. |
