Powerful images. Well concieved and executed. Well done ... But you don't know me and it's arrogant to channel me. |
I apologize if you felt I was channeling you. But I was generalizing.....not finger pointing. |
Well done indeed...I truly did enjoy these images and could most certainly identify with some of the scenes depicted.
As an aside,I most certainly do not feel that I was channeled by the "Collective You" that is often used in a medium such as this.

I really love what you've done to expose both emotional and physical trauma. in fact, the burst balloon picture i feel makes up for its physical "weakness" with emotional power. unlike the others it is far less literal and within the metaphor is the power of the photo. to describe these photos as dark would be giving them a negative connotation, something i would like to avoid. these photos speak truth. and truth is something that all too often falls on deaf ear or no ears at all. the exposure of truth breathes life and depth into these photos.

I'm undecided about the wisdom of doing this. The photos are excellent and well done. Perhaps too well done.
Sight is the most persuasive sense - we can believe something if we see it. And, seeing something makes it more real. I think some of these images could be very painful to someone who has had such an experience but who has suppressed or denied it in hopes it will "go away". Is that good or bad? I don't know, but I suspect it could be very damaging to someone with a psyche still fragile from the trauma. At the same time, it could be very healthy to bring it to the surface and allow them to deal with it and hopefully come to some kind of closure. I suppose it could have to do with what all else is going on in a person's life - whether they're going through a very tough time, or if things are doing better for them.
Also, I wonder about the wisdom of graphically portraying evil (photo or film). Do we really need to see pictures of a dead dog? Or a detailed picture of a road kill animal? Is there redeeming value in them? Or do they serve to deaden our horror of horrific situations? Reduce our repulsion at witnessing the unthinkable? Or simply allow us to continue being ostriches with out collective heads in the sand, ignoring situations that should be stopped?

Judi,
These images are amazing. I am in school right now getting my bachelor's in psychology. I appreciate the images and commend you on your interest to dive in to a subject that may seem taboo to so many people. Getting these out there is very powerful.
I experienced some pretty bad crap growing up and these images did spark some emotion in me.... before I looked at the images I read your explanation, so I was prepared. Definitely a collection that you need to have "trigger" warnings on (like you did in your explanation).
I am always amazed at the talent that I have experienced on this site and it isn't just in the realm of shooting a picture... it is in the realm of the imagination.
Thanks for sharing these!

I am pleased that this series is coming across how I expected. Powerful, yet confusing for some as to how to receive the images....maybe through personal experiences, whether they are suppressed or dealt with already....maybe through the horror of seeing death or violence. Both of which are very prominent in everyday events and many don't want to hear about them. But they have and will continue to effect people in many forms.
My purpose of this series was to show how much these childhood events really do have an impact on our lives and the decisions we make.
So thankyou everyone for showing me that this series was worth doing. I am still contemplating the continuance of this series...but obviously it isn't something that can be done overnight. So I will keep you informed on future additions to the theme.
