Sometimes I still don't understand my camera.
We went for a little trip to the Gold Coast. The weather varied from overcast (only for a short while) to being a bright sunny day.
Most of my photos turned out rather dark, and I can NOT figure out why.
They were "rescue-able" in Photoshop, but still..... why are they like that?
Here is one of the worse examples - details are with the photo.
Please help me figure out what I'm doing wrong.

wow--I dunno. The only thing I can think of is the polarizer interfering with the metering. I suppose you could test this in better lighting conditions: shoot a scene in decent light without it, noting the settings. The polarizer is probably at least a stop of loss, so when adding it the metering should adapt for it, but may not. Note the settings that the camera is choosing with the filter, and also go full manual and see what settings you need to achieve the original non-filter results.
But if this is not the reason, well, I dunno. I suppose the metering mode might be an issue when using the polarizer--maybe needs to be larger area average--again, just guessing and speculating. |

Well, that sure is very dark... just based on the data shown, I can't figure out why that should be so. You shot in aperture priority mode, but the camera chose 1/125s, which seems way too fast for the other settings. SO in the end it's not surprising it's dark, just surprising that a shutter speed of 1/125 was chosen.
Honestly, the first thing I'd try is shooting a blank whit wall and seeing if it comes out mid-gray. If it too comes out dark, then there is a metering problem. If there is a problem, try resetting the camera to factory defaults, and see if that clears up the issue. |

Hmmmm, do you have the latest firmware installed? |

Thanks, everyone, for your input.
I've been busy with studying lately, so I have little time to follow this up and try different things, but I'll keep it all in mind.
I don't have the latest firmware installed, but that is on my to-do list for one of these days.
When I get a bit more time to play again, I'll try playing with the white wall idea, filter on/off and the resetting to defaults.
