BREAK THE RULES! - Take an image using three of the listed techniques (Blur, Grain, Centered Composition, Tilted Angle, Blown Highlights)

This Challenge will kick all sorts of ass.

Haha!

I'll second this one. But if there's a jury, let someone else be it this time :-)

Yep. Wouldn't mind that at all.

I'm all for this one. Most of my shots contain that stuff anyway, usually on accident though.

Same here but for those who'd like to dabble or continue down a more aggressive path...

It would be interesting to do this in a way that you could get away with breaking only one rule, but breaking any two rules, or the same one twice would get a DQ. A DQ example would be to clone two items in or out.
One rule that you could not break would be time related, the images have to be shot during the week of the challenge. One other special rule, would be to make it mandatory for the photographer to explain which rule was broken in the photog's comment box when submitting the image.
That might keep the challenge from being a free-for-all processing challenge.
Let everyone pick their own rule to break and see how it goes.

I'd settle for breaking two rules but I think it's a sweet challenge to utilize multiple techniques and in this case ones that are sometimes viewed as unpopular and would generate some very interesting work. It helps people to think a little more aggressively and holds them in different zones. The exercise also requires balance if the image is to do well by the voters. A very cool thing.

I like this idea, but think it should also include a snapshot of a boring subject!

Slightly confused here (easily done btw) but how are we breaking the rules? Are there 'rules' that say you cannot have a grainy image? or are you saying the challenge title is (lets say) smooth and you enter a grainy image?

sounds good to me

ooh, I like the "more aggressive path" and thinking more "aggressively." bring it on, but let's have a little warm up with a bad photo.

I believe the original idea is to take one of the "traditional rules" of composition/photographic technique and make an image which deliberately violates that rule; center your subject rather than placing on the 1/3-line, over- or under-expose, etc. A grainy image with an unsuitable subject (baby or wedding photo?) might work ...

I think this might have been inspired by the current suggestion thread advocating a "worst photo wins" challenge -- I was actually looking for this thread (or a similar one) earlier, because I thought we'd run a challenge like this already. :-(

You are correct, I looked for this thread or challenge as a result of the worst photo thread.
