Basically - our instructor is a *very* firm believer in shooting strictly in AV mode when shooting outdoors.
I've very seldom used AV mode, I don't find it works well for quick moving subjects - like kids !
Differing angels from the sun.
Nothing fancy - and posing was a significant issue.

We were in studio in class tonight - using only ourselves as models ! Slightly scary, with a lot of significantly uncomfortable people.
Here's a few shots I took - can you guess which one I didn't have the flash controller for ?
We were using a specific ISO, F-stop and shutter speed, using studio lights.
ISO 200, F8, 1/125
(except one, which I took while someone else was shooting).

O creative suck oracles, what photographic images come to mind for ballons?
My favorite memory of a ballon image was as a viagra alternative so my mind has been warped.

Yeah gads, more like what images DON'T come to mind! Count on there being tons of kute kiddy shots with balloons, birthday and other parties, balloons escaping a crying child into a blue sky, maybe the odd deflated balloon, a water balloon being popped with a dart/, hot air balloons, kids chucking water balloons around...and for those of us a certain age, there will be probably by 99 LuftBallons too...
And please don't tell us about the Viagra alternative! Please! :-) |

My score is my birthday. In all the years I've been here, I've gotten close but it's the first time it actually had every digit right. LOL!

Hey, I want one, too, especially since I was born in July! |

*sticking head in door* Hey all, I haven't gone missing, just a little AWOL. But never fear I have an entry of awesome suckage for balloons. Natural light is just cruising under 6 in those annoying 5.9xx waters and Out of Place is around 5.6.
Anyhoo in BC at the moment visiting parents and family. Managed to borrow a nice ol' Slik tripod from someone on the island, so shooting lots of stuff which should meet Alamy's stringent standards.
Bye for now! |

Well, tonight is the first DPL submission. Here's hoping all of us will kick ass (or suck) in our respective DPL teams.
Stay sucky!

me too. 10.1270 would be a cool score. unfortunately, 1.0127 is probably more realistic. |

I ordered a giant 40inch 5 in 1 reflector, and a 4GB Class 6, 20MB/s memory card from amazon and got them today! The memory card was cheaper than one here that is the same size but a lot slower. I had them shipped to relatives in the US because it didn't ship to Canada. Can't wait to try out the reflector!
On a sad note, I had a lot of ideas for balloons but didn't get a chance to do any of them :( |
