We always leave the portrait challenges open to a wide range of portraits. But why not narrow them down to specific styles. Here are a few ideas.

Topic: Maxim/FHM (Glamour)
Challenge: Take a Photos that can be featured in Maxim or FHM magazine
Advanced Editing

Topic: Vogue/Bizarre (can also be High Fashion)
Challenge: Photos that can be featured in Vogue or Bizarre magazine
Advanced Editing

Topic: Inked/Gothic beauty (Alternative)
Challenge: Photos that can be featured in Inked or Gothic Beauty Magazine
Advanced Editing

Topic: Engagement Photos
Challenge: Capture the essence of a wedding engagement
Advanced Editing

Topic: Senior Portrait
Challenge: Take a photo that can be used as a high school or College senior portrait

Very good idea, but there wouldnt be as many people involved

Nice to vote on, but the winners will be the ones with access to models.

Not necessarily. Most people tend to use their kids, parents, spouses as models anyways. Nothing wrong with doing the same thing in either of these cases. Not to mention it will make it people start to learn new ways of going out and finding people to shoot rather than relying solely on family.

There are quite a few people here who shoot people. They normally just take the easier route of shooting the cute shots rather than taking the overboard shots. I think these type of challenges will get people out of the cutesy type shots....well except Engagements and Senior Portraits...but those type of shots allows people to explore a normal widely shot style of shooting.

I like these topics because it takes us out of the realm of just shooting a portrait...but working on a particular style.
