So I went to Best Buy today to fix my pathetic excuse for a monitor, and I had about a one hour wait so of course I headed over to the digital camera counter to drool over my beloved Digital Rebel, and this guy comes over and starts trying to persuade me to buy it, which was really a waste of time because if I had the money to buy it, it would have been in my hands loooong ago. Anyway, then he starts to mention two years no interest, and 20% discounts, and special free gift packages, and blah blah.. and I'm such a sucker, I totally fell for it. So now I'm the new owner of a Best Buy credit card, a Digital Rebel, and about $1500 of debt. :)
I don't think I can BE more excited!! ahhhhhh kdslkhfdhfd i'm as giddy as a schoolgirl :) :) :) So all you proud Rebel owners, tell me what I need to know!! What should I play with first? What secrets should I know? Help me out, happiness loves company!! |

Congratulations! I know you'll love it. Only got mine 6 months ago and am still learning all the time. My first favorite feature was the white balance, especially custom setting--but that's probably because the first week I had it I drove from snow country to white, sand beach land.
My suggestion: Take the small paper manual with you everywhere and read a page when your waiting for something. |

Congratulations on your purchase. What else did you pick up besides the camera?

Make sure you make the payments on time. One missed or late payment and interest kicks in at something like 21% effective from the date of purchase.

My addiction is lenses as well.
since buying mine in mid-January, i have reached 3500 on the image counter!
(yes, you could say i went nuts.)
EDIT: It's such a great way for people to get a step towards SLR cameras. cheap, and high quality...

What a great thing to come home to - a fully charged camera and a bunch of messages from fellow DPCers!! :)
I am definitely also addicted to lenses - thankfully I've owned a Rebel Ti SLR for awhile, so I've already got a nice stock of accessories for my 300D. I didn't actually pick up anything else with it - I didn't have enough money :( - but within the next few weeks I'm going to pick up some filters, a new camera bag, a 1 GB CF card, and hopefully a new flash.. any suggestions for that last one?
Spaz, thanks so much for the advice - I didn't know that, and I think you definitely put enough fear into me to make sure I pay on time!! I did the one thing they tell every college student not to do - get a credit card and buy something expensive - so now I've gotta prove them wrong and be responsible about it ;)
Kadi, I'm also very very excited about the white balance, that's probably the first feature I'm going to play with. Can't wait to read my manual!! :) i can see my summer school grades suffering already!
thanks so much for all your comments!! Keep 'em coming :)

A few suggestions. Replace the neck strap. It gets uncomfortable and advertises the fact that you are wearing an expensive camera. Look on the web for another batterey or two, they are great insurance for about $20 per. I have had good luck using the 4 gig MD card from the Creative Movo2 MP3 player that is around for $200, a great deal for such a big microdrive. Also, not right way, but after a few weeks, look into the russian firmwear hack. The latest one gives the d300 many of the custom functions that get rid of some of the anoyances that you will find in the first few weeks. I'm just giddy with all the new toys it gives me. Oh, and have fun.
