Well, I think you have both done your part to offend those of us who are Christian, so let's call it even, eh?
Stick to the topic, which, last I checked, was the earthquake.

This is a photography site, not a forum to preach to us about what was written hundreds of years ago by ignorant manipulative men. I don't see why the mods let this stuff stay in the threads when they know some of us object to it and it almost always causes distress to members.
Right, I forgot to inject something about the earthquake.

Glad to report that a couple of hours ago someone from Concepcion got a text message out to my nephew saying my niece was safe and well. My brother and his wife were flying back to the UK after visiting her, and therefore in communication "limbo" themselves, so as you can imagine they were VERY glad to be greeted by that news when they landed!! |

Very good news, Penny - glad to hear!
P.S. The shots I posted from this morning look like the water was pretty high, but to be fair, water does break on the breakwater (hence the name) at high tide, and it was high tide or very close to it. Usually the waves against the wall aren't quite so spectacularly, though! |

Melethia beat me to it, but this is my take on the tsunami aftermath. Actually, I don't think it was so much the aftermath of the tsunami (which turned out to be about a two foot swell with no damage, thank goodness), as a combination of storm surge and high tide. In any event, the view was awesome and awe-inspiring this morning.

The local tsunamis that struck here in Chile were much worse than what was seen elsewhere. The city of Consitucion was basically destroyed, many small coastal towns were wiped from the map. The main coastal road from Iloca to Constitucion is described as "non-existent".
My wife and I live in Talca, about 60 miles away from the epicenter. We survived with no damage to person or property (other than the damaged nerves!). Many people were not so lucky. The amount of damage around the town is heartbreaking, many old historic buildings have crumbled. Smaller rural towns are still without basic services - no electricity, water, or gas. They are basically cut-off.
Aid is desperately needed by many people here. Food, water, and clothing are all in high demand. Hopefully things will get better soon, but it is still very bad for many people. |

mbardeen, It's good to hear that you are safe. I looked at the DPC profiles for users from Chili, and saw that no one had posted anything from there in many months.
Thank you for the report, and I hope that aid will arrive soon for the people on the coast and where destruction is the worst.
