Hey guys,

Interesting issue - I was out shooting today and noticed my exposure was suddently WAAAAYYY off, which I found odd as i was shooting on P with my flash. I then noticed that the dial was still on P, yet the LCD was saying Manual. When i flicked through all the modes on the dial, they are all reporting as either manual or a-dep, with some of the 'consumer' modes reporting as 'night portrait'. So in essence, I have lost 90% of my modes. I'm thinking it's a software issue, and I have pulled the cmos battery out and put it back in so as to 'factory reset' the camera, but no luck, it still does the same thing.

The only thing i can think of is to do a firmware update. Not sure if that will help, but i thought i'd see if anyone has a suggestion before i start trying to fix it.

Any thoughts?

Oh yeah, it's a Canon EOS 400D, bought in Australia...if that makes any difference.

Could be your rotary switch has had it. Might want to take it to a camera store to get ti checked.

My guess would be the rotary switch as well, if resetting to factory defaults did not clear the issue.

Hmmm consensis seems to be rotary switch....

Anyone know enough about them to know if a firmware update may work?

I've got one that does this (EOS 100 35mm)...

you can try pressing down on the button as you rotate it, that might work, or at least it does for my old EOS.

hmm i'll try pressing down on the rotory switch too, and see if that helps.

Is there any reset buttons hidden away on the body anywhere (yes, i lost my manual!), or is it just a matter of taking out the cmos battery?

Manuals are available online. Just go to the manufacturer website.
