Digital Image Pro Emphasis Filter to desaturate, darken, brighten, or any number of weird filter MS chose to put in there.
Open a picture.
Press Control+D to duplicate to picture. You now have 2 layers in the stack column on the right.
In the Stack column Right click on the top layer and choose Lock. This is so we don't get the 2 layers out of sync.
Click on the top layer to insure it is selected.
Zoom in to the picture (200-400%), you will be working on the top layer.
Use Edge Finder or Freehand tool to trace completely around the rose.
Once all the way to the start point the cross hair will disappear and the entire rose will be selected.
In the Edge Finder or Freehand toolbox select invert. This will choose the opposite area of the rose.
(you could use feather from the toolbox to soften the edge of the rose before inverting (no more than 1-2)).
Press the Delete Key to remove everything but the rose (marqueed area). Top layer in Stack will be the rose only now.
We want to apply our emphasis filter to the background so make sure top layer is selected.
Choose Emphasis... from the Effects drop-down menu.
Here I used Desaturate, but darken and blur work quite well too. Sepia and the others are a lot of fun.
Have fun with it. You can still still click on the top layer (rose here) and adjust USM, levels and anything else.
Save your work as a png file to retain the layers and once you have it where you want it save it as a jpg to upload here. |
