No the threads are long enough, but the diameter of the rings are all to small to screw in. Oh well.

Use duck tape.

...they make tape out of ducks... how quaint. Is it any good to cover quacks. :O)

Are these low tar and nicotine? I read somewhere where some of those filters don't actually filter anything.

Well after laying the rings together and looking closely, they are the same ring. The 55-58 is mislabled I guess. But its the exact same as the 52-58.

This thread has turned into a three ring circus. That was a great thread title monster-zero!

When the aliens want to take over this planet, they will bring a ray gun that makes duct tape fall off of everything, and we will be powerless to resist them. Our only hope is that the ray gun will backfire.

I wish Sony had a dslr made of duct tape, or even duck tape would work too. Maybe a flash made of scotch tape.

Well I went to our local shop and got the correct ring and everything fits beautifully. I even dug through their box of used filters and got a polarizer for $4. Now if I just didnt have to go back to work tonight it would be a perfect day.

You may have purchased a linear polarizer. You may want to know the differences between a circular and linear polarizer. A linear polarizer will affect auto-focus and metering of your camera. Depending on how you use it, it may not be a problem but something to be aware of. Also if you have a circular polarizer and a linear polarizer, I believe you can connect them together and make a Variable ND filter to your own settings by twisting one or both of the stacked filters. :)

The story I heard is that it was originally called "duck" tape because of the way it shed water, but the name "duck" seemed like a mistake, so it got changed to the seemingly "more correct" "duct" in common parlance.

Also, when rigorously tested a few years ago it turned out to be very effective at for many tasks, but not sealing ducts.

I never thought it was intended to be used for sealing......I'd only ever seen it used to fasten and hang loose tube type duct work, and also double as insulating it against various straps & hangers to lessen rattles.

When I was a kid working summers on a commercial construction crew duct tape was used for all kinds of fastening chores.

Personally, I always hated the stuff as a mechanic because some people viewed it as an automotive repair item. That sh*t is AWFUL to get off windows, paint, & plastic when some bozo uses it to hold a window in place because of a broken regulator, or some such thing.

So you're saying your stupid filter needed a stupid filter to connect to the right adapter to mount the stupid filter on the lens?

Guys, the lens has a 55mm filter thread. So it's not a mix-up between the step-up ring sizes and the focal length of the lens.

Anyway, if those two rings are the same, get the whole thing replaced and make sure the new one has the right rings :)
