I was at Best Buy today and saw this. So I figured what the hell and bought it. My lens is 55mm and I cannot for the life of me get this stupid thing to fit. The filter itself is 58 mm and it came with 2 rings, one says 52-55mm and the other 55-58mm and NONE of them fit into the threads. Its like they are all too small except for the filter itself. And of course I cant find the reciept to take it back

Did you try stacking the rings. screw the 52-55 onto your camera and then the 55-58 into that ring and then attach the filter..
in almost all cases the filter size is larger than the actually lens. For example. a 50mm lens would require a 52mm filter, I have a 17-55 that requires a 77mm filter. i am not sure about other lens brands but Nikon usually has the size on the back of the lens cap which would be the size filter required for that particular lens.
ETA: I just looked up that lens and it seems that it requires a 55mm filter so you should only need the 55-58 ring.

Thats what I thought, but its not big enough to thread into the lens. I got a lens hood in the mail today thats 55mm and fits beautifully, but this filter is irritating.

The threads are too short? If so take it back and get a refund.

No the threads are long enough, but the diameter of the rings are all to small to screw in. Oh well.

| Does the filter fit the lens on its own? Meaning its a 55mm filter rather than a 58mm filter. |

THE FILTER IS 58MM. RIGHT, ON THE FACE OF YOUR LENS AROUND THE FRONT ELEMENT THERE WILL BE AN "o" BISECTECTED BY A VERTICAL LINE FOLLOEW BY A NUMBER THIS IS THE FILTER SIZE OF YOUR LENS IF IT IS SAY 55M YOU WILL NEED THE STEPDOWN RING FOR IT IE 58MMFILTER/55MM CAMERA.IF YOU HAVE THE CORRECT COMBINATION IT SHOULD FIT IF IT ISNT A VERY SMALL SMEAT OF VASALINE,KY JELLY ON THE FILTER THREAD WILL HELP. THIS IS FROM EXPERIENCE AS i HAVE ANUMBER OF EXPENSIVE FILTERS AND STEPDOWN FILTERS, ALLL WORK OK

I looked up the specs and it is a 55 mm diameter lens thread. The 55-58 mm thread should mount directly to the lens' threads and the filter should attach to the outside of the 55-58 mm ring. The 55-58 mm and the filter should also be able to mount together and then go on the lens. You could also take it to a local camera shop anyway and see if they can help you out. If this does not work, I would return it. |

Well after laying the rings together and looking closely, they are the same ring. The 55-58 is mislabled I guess. But its the exact same as the 52-58.

That would be the cause of your problem. Now you have a good reason to return for refund or exchange, If you opt for exchange be sure to have them open the new one at the store to make sure the contents are correct, maybe take your lens along with you and make sure it fits before you leave the store.

Depends on if it's being thrown or offered.
This post probably will not make it through the stupid filter.

Have another look at my filtered entries for that answer. Was the stupid filtered out? |

I'll take all the filters people want to give me. I might even pay for some.
