Maybe using a see-thru cup would give the ice/drink more contrast. You can try different/multiple lighting this way. |

What are you trying to say with the shot?

If shooting with a camera isn't working, try a shotgun....

I did intend to say shoot in my question.
I was trying to get a detailed shot of the ice cubes. |

Maybe try shooting from the side, with large cubes? You might get a better sense of depth and more color. This image is in focus just fine, but is very two-dimensional. |

Maybe fill it to near the top and use a more side-ways angle to get some height into the icecubes? I'd also use a small aperture to get a deeper DOF. Also be careful to avoid blowing out detail on the icecubes. I think I'd be tempted to underexpose slightly and bumb up brightness/saturation with editing.
Here's a shot I entered a while ago:

Actually the shot isn't that bad. You only have a few small "blown out" spots which can easily be Cloned out. The cubes themselves look fine to me. Then you could adjust the contrast a little using Curves. And maybe play with the colors a little, etc.
BTW, I wouldn't try Spazmo's idea, you'll probably get punch all over the place using that technique. ;) |
