I've been working on a keywording tool that may be of interest to some of you...
My basic file-naming convention of {date}-{job description}-{sequence number} readily lends itself to building basic keywords off the job description (especially since my job descriptions are fairly descriptive). To take advantage of this, I've built a two-step tool: step one parses the image names into a dictionary and step two updates the image exif with the appropriate keywords.
A few notes:
* the first part of the exif update is to make a clean copy of the original file so that you have a backup, just in case...
* this should not be used on any production images (this is an alpha version, after all)
* this should not be used on any originals, especially possible challenge entries...
* if you don't use a very similar file-naming convention, this isn't for you.
* you will need a tool to view your exif (i use lightroom, but there are plenty of other tools that will display the IPTC section of the exif data)
* the current version runs under windows only
* at the moment, it updates 10-15 images per minute, depending file size and number of keywords. I'm really interested in getting some performance benchmarks.
If you're interested, please pm me. I'm looking for a handful of testers who can give me the feedback necessary to make this releasable. If there are any takers, I'll follow up with you tomorrow.
Thanks,
