I'll be out in the Bay Area at the end of this month and wondered if there are any must visit photo spots. I don't really care if they are of spots that have been well represented on this site - this is more for my own personal collection. The last time I was out there, I was working all over the area for two weeks. My job at the time even allowed me to go up in the Sutro Tower. That's a view! I might even try to coax a fellow employee within my company to see if they can get me up there again just to take some shots. heh heh

I'll have a rental car so driving around is no biggie. I'm actually staying in Walnut Creek and any suggestions for that side of the Bay would be great.

Thanks!

From where you are staying, you might want to drive up to the top of Mt. Diablo (State Park), highest point in the area. If it's a really clear day you can see all the way out to the Farallon Islands 28 miles outside the Golden Gate. On the eastern side of the park are some nice rock/canyon formations.

If you like birds you might want to visit the sanctuary at the end of Lake Merritt (oldest wildlife preserve in the country) in downtown Oakland. At the Berkeley Marina you can walk nearly a mile out into the Bay on the fishing pier, with views of three bridges and Alcatraz. UC Berkeley has some nice architecture. For a modest fee you can get to the top of the Campanile, and there are usually short concerts daily with a longer one on Sundays, using one of the largest carillons in the country.

If you like steam trains, there are some nice ones at Tilden Regional park in the Berkeley hills.

I'll post some links/examples later ...
