You should check out Moodville's tutorial on creating duo/tri/quadtones. It should pretty much walk you through it. When loading a preset, stick to the browns. Also, check out this website where you can download some great Sepia quadtones to add to your presets.

Ken Lee Gallery

Hope this helps a little. :)

Russell Brown has a very good quick time movie tutorial.

To access it, you need to click on the "more tips" button and scroll down on the second page to "seeing in black and white".

well...but the logical question would be how can you save a duo-tone image as a jpeg...i couldn't figure out...when you go to 'save as'...you don't have the jpeg format as an option...

could somebody help me with that?!

Once you have the toning you desire and are done with any adjustments, I believe you can change it back to RGB color under Image>Mode which will then save your tones and allow you to save a a jpeg.... try that and see if it works, it should.

The easiest way to change to sepia is to go to Variations. Then click on More Yellow and then on More Red.

Then go to Hue/Saturation and desaturate until it looks good.

the only problem with this is you don't get any consistency. What 'looks good' can vary day to day, depending on lighting in the room, your mood, what you've been looking at previously, what monitor you're looking at etc. I love the duo/tri/quadtone method because the results are predictable and consistent.

I did this series and used the same method each time. I've had lots of comments/compliments on the tones and the consistency.

Not that I should be contradicting one of my favourite fotogs in Mr. Sidwell...I understand I'm not worthy :)

This may be true, but it IS easy! Although I usually use this method, and by desaturation percentages I can usually get good results.

I created my own action as well. It's basically two clicks to get consistent results. Bless photoshop. :)
