Hello, I am looking to purchase a new G2. My question goes to why the huge disparity in prices? Can a $514.00 G2 be the same as a $700.00 G2? Am I missing something here, or are sopme stores simply chagring that much for their superior support ;)?

Thanks,
Tim

well, let's see ... i'm currently on hold for a customer service rep at the store where i orderded my low-priced camera. they keep telling me that they've shipped it and that the tracking number is simply not yet in their system. should i get through to someone, i will be canceling my order and ordering from a more reputable store, even if they charge more.

bottom line, you take your chances.

oh, and your chances of getting the camera increase dramatically if you order some accessories from the same site that you use for your camera. accessories are usually overpriced and that's how they make up for cheap camera prices. (needless to say i didn't order accessories ;)

check the company rating and the user comments to see if you feel comfortable buying from a company. scam artists usually have many stories similar to mine listed in the reviews ...

good luck shopping :)

USEFUL TIP!

use the customer ratings of the stores available from a site like dealtime or bizrate to assess whether or not the vendor has a decent reputation.

www.buydig.com is a well respected seller of that camera and has probably the cheapest price you will find for it.

www.resellerratings.com is an amazing site where you input the store you want to find and it will tell you based on customer reviews what kind of company it is and whether or not you should buy from that company.

update: managed to cancel my previous order. just ordered through digital foto discount instead. still a good price, AND i had a confirmation email in my inbox immediately after placing the order. they also specified that this is a USA product, not an import. they also sell imports (slightly cheaper), so that's something to keep an eye out for, but so far, they are impressive.

they now just need to follow through and ship out today as promised ... :) but i have hope, their ratings on pricegrabber are very high.
