Question for all who have done this sort of thing in the past.

I was asked to take some pictures of a pitcher (#20) who plays for our local Minor League affiliate of the Giants. How much would one expect to receive per 4x6 or 5x7 print for such work? I have been asked to print 24 4x6 prints and a few 5x7 prints. I have also created a poster for which they would like 2. These will be 10x15 (ordered from DPCPrints). Any information regarding pricing would be greatly appreciated.

In case you are interested in the photos and the poster, here they are:

PHOTOS (These are the pics from which the 24 were chosen)

POSTER:

I would like anyones comments on the photos and poster also.

Thanks!

Bill - great photos and I really like the poster. What lens were you using?

When I shoot sports I charge:
4x6 - $8 each or $5 each for 2 or more
5x7 - $12 each or $9 each for 2 or more
8x10 - $20 each or $17 each for 2 or more
11x14 - $30 each or $27 each for 2 or more
16x20 - $45 each or $42 each for 2 or more

I have charged (CHEAP!) people when I did some portraits, $30 an hour (with editing at $30 an hour, too), and then like $10 a sheet.
A sheet being 8x11.5. Whatever will fit onto that sheet. ie: 2 5x7, 3-4 (depends on how you want to do that one) 4x5 or 6's, one 8x10, larger than that would be 2 sheets, 3 sheets etc.
But that is pretty cheap ass, with trying to get portrait experience and a little word of mouth.

Portraits I have a whole seperate price list. What I've been doing to get experience is offering the sitting for free if I don't have to drive anywhere. Then they pay for prints and if they sign a model release I give a 10% discount.

I charge differently for sporting events because I can't charge for my time to shoot and I have to drive there so the price is higher.

Thanks! I was using my Canon EF 75-300mm 1:4-5.6 II for all of these shots. Not a super sharp lens but it does the job very nicely. I'm hoping to get the Sigma 70-300mm APO Super II soon. I think it is supposed to be a bit sharper than the Canon.

Those prices look reasonable. I was thinking $5 for 4x6 and $8 for 5x7. However, I think I am going to adopt your price chart above. Thanks!!!

How much would you think for the 10x15 poster? Should I just use the 11x14 price and go with that?

I did get the 4x6 prints done yesterday at the local SAM's club on the Fuji Frontier and WOW, do they look awesome!!! The color is amazing and they appear very sharp in print. I really like the white border on them, they look like baseball cards. :)

No problem, glad I could be of some help! :-)

I was happy to discover that the local Costco/Sam's Clubs use the Fuji Crystal Archive machines. I still get prints made through DPC, but if I need something fast I have a local alternative.

The poster is a specialty item because it's not just a processed print. If I were you, I'd charge a little more than the 11x14 price.

I will be getting the posters printed through DPCPrints. I went and got the pictures done at SAM's because the last few times I have tried to get prints with borders done through DPCPrints the borders have been cut off. I inform the folks at SAM's that I have intentional white borders and they will leave them on without cropping much if any.

Maybe DPCPrints needs some sort of special instructions area that you can put instructions in when ordering prints.(?) There is an idea. :)

The only thing that SAM's does not offer is glossy prints. In store they only do matte finish.

Thanks again for the help and information!!!
