Just wanted to say hey, and that I've been enjoying all of your "company".

Not only am I new to digital photography, but this is the first forum that I have ever participated in, so I'm a forum noob as well. I tend to be on the technical side, so I was finding great tutorials and "how did they do thats", and enjoying taking in all the talent.

I registered in December and have participated in 3 or 4 challenges so far. Even though you'll find my entries all seem to have a brown cast to them, I'm having a large time.

Learning tons, too...

BTW - I have seen numerous references to "trolls", but not sure what that is. (Something to do with bringing down scores???)

Anyway, I'm glad I finally found a way to say hey.

Trolls take many forms- you'll see people on forums comment on how people are trolling (think trolling like fishing... throwing out comments just to get a rise out of people and frustrate them). There's also the carryover to the supposed voting trolls, which means there's a deep conspiracy to make your score lower. It seems to afflict everybody and its always the fault of the trolls for voting things low (because low votes are never deserved).
You can't be THAT much of a noob if you knew the term, though.
In any case, welcome to the site and hope you enjoy it here. Don't hesitate to ask questions, then keep an open mind and a tough hide and you'll do great.

Welcome to the club, pull up a chair and stay a while. A few of us have been snatched up by the nice men in the white coats so you will have to keep an eye out for them. Otherwise have fun and dont take your score or comments too seriously, as some people are trying to be honest and come across sounding like jerks and well this is the internet so yes there is a few jerks as well so you will have to read between the lines.

AS for the trolls they are an elite bunch that take great personal satisfaction in voting down the photos of others in a lame attempt to compensate for their incredible lack of skills and make them selves feel better but there are means in place to counter this as well.

Most importantly HAVE FUN,

-dave

Welcome to the madhouse. I had look at your entries and recognized one of them because it gave me opportunity for a nice snarky comment. I'm sorry you are still having such bad problems with that Egyptian fog.

A troll is anybody that disagrees with whatever nonsense you are currently spewing. ;)

I would have to disagree with both of you.

But surely if he was doing that there must be a relevance to the number, otherwise the geek cred isn't very credible :)

Perhaps you and I aren't as geeky as we thought and we will be humiliated by not knowing the significance. Maybe I need to watch some more Star Trek.

Thanks to all for putting out the welcome mat. Glad to see someone got the 2112 message. Unfortunately, I'm not that much of a Trekkie (besides the "hailing frequency" thingy). The 2112 reference is one of my all-time favorite albums by the band Rush.

See now that's just silly because I don't know if you're using single or double byte characters ;)

Well, if it is Unicode, then the first 128 characters will be the same as the older ASCII standard, regardless of the specific implementation he is using.

1st of all... not sure how all this quote crap works, so if it's funky, deal with it.

2nd of all... this was just a simple hello message. Get a grip.

and C... I lived in San Antonio for about six years, so I already know the "everything's big in Texas", "Yankee with a U-Haul", and "Don't mess with Texas" stuff.

But 'fess up - You Photo-Shopped the belt buckle, didn't you?

Just be pleased at how your simple hello has evolved into something greater. It frequently happens.

Nope. Belt buckle is genuine. If you've lived in Texas, you should know these huge buckles are real. I did 'shop out a banner that was hanging on the chair back, however. Obviously I did a good job of it, since nobody noticed.
