| And only yesterday I was looking at a Japanese translation of Catcher in the Rye in a classroom,and I wondered how much longer J.D. Salinger would be in the world. Less than a day, as it turns out. |

Wow. "Raise High the Roofbeam, Carpenters" and "Seymour: An Introduction" - the two Salinger short novels that slay me.
Salinger was an enigma, and a rarity. I wonder if they'll find a ton of unpublished works in his possession?

That is exactly what they have. He wrote constantly throughout his life even though he was a recluse. There are notebooks and 'manuscripts' in abundance according to his heirs. |

Cant wait to see what the family decides to do with all his work. He was such a private person, wonder if he would want them all published?

He died on Wednesday, so he may have already been dead ;). |

You're right. It was still Wednesday in America when I was looking at the book ... maybe he died at the exact same time. |

| Pug-H I wonder if you have seen Ghost in the Shell first Gig series since you're in Japan. The whole series is inspired by Catcher in the Rye. It's a must see. |

I saw almost all of the first one, but I don't think I've seen any of 2nd Gig. That's a quality show for anybody who likes sci-fi, in my opinion. |

Funny, and you know, Salinger hated phonies. At least his characters did. It's clear in everything he wrote.
