Corel just announced Paint Shop Pro X3...
I'm not seeing any compelling reason to upgrade for $59 - how about you? |

Bumping this... I was about to post the same thing, but thought I'd check to see if someone else got there first. Apparently this isn't generating much excitement.
I'm not interested in new features so much (the equivalent of Photoshop smart objects would be nice) as much as I am in getting a stable product. In X2, the crop tool is quirky at best and curves crashes if you get too adventurous.
Currently I'm playing around with a trial of Lightroom. I like it, but I don't $300 like it. |

I downloaded and installed it the day it was released. RAW import is greatly improved (though I still prefer to use Canon DPP), but none of the bugs that I've experienced with X2 have been fixed.
I've had the same issues with the quirky crop tool that bvy has. X3 also crashed on me a couple of times. There is still not full 16 bit support and many tools still tell you that it will need to downsample to 8 bits, before it will work. The thing that made me stop using the 30 day trial however, was a new problem: A number of times I hit the ok button in the dialog box after making adjustments, and the application behaved as if I had hit the cancel button.
Over the last few months, Corel has asked me to fill out several detailed and blunt surveys. I had been hopeful that they were trying to make the next version a competitive product, but it appears that the marketing division designed this one.
There has been an extensive discussion of it in the PaintShop Pro group on Flickr, if anyone wants to see what's being said over there. A handful of people are having no problems, but most are disappointed like me. |
