Well that is what he is called, he is a rare sighting in the UK so I hear but I went to a beautiful nature reserve and I found this young fella bobbing around on the water

OK I found the correct spelling SMEW
I think the other way to spell it means something a lot more disgusting

Nice pix--I got a different spelling when I Binged it. I think this is the same guy. I've never seen one here on this side of the pond.
The Smew (Mergellus albellus) is a small duck which is somewhat intermediate between the typical mergansers (Mergus) and the goldeneyes (Bucephala).
