The 100-400mm f/4.5 - 5.6L or the 50mm f/1.8

Neither, I just like to take pictures of wildlife a lot and this is the lens that gets me there.

Wow, EF 400mm f/2.8L IS, an expensive one. Are you a Paparazzi? =) At least you must be a professional?

I find that I'm the 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III USM lens the most.

The lens kit that came with the D70 - AF-S Nikkor 18-70mm is adequate for everyday use but increasingly, the Nikkor 24-120mm 3.5-5.6 VR is a staple in my briefcase everywhere I go and may become the lens that will stay on the camera.

Canon 28-80mm II USM 3.5/5.6 most of the time. Bought it 2nd hand, would like some L glass, ah well, one day maybe.

70-200/2.8L IS USM - most used
17-40/4.0L USM - on my camera when just sitting around the house or walking
50/1.4 USM - for when I'm setting up a technical shot and need something crisp and fast

Most wanted:
100/2.8 Macro
24-70L
400/5.6

Ah, to have the 17-40, the 24-70, AND the 70-200. I'd be a lucky boy. :)

Doesn't a 17mm focal length lens have distortion problems with the 300D/10D? And I agree, I'd love to have a 70-200mm and a nice macro lens.
