Has anyone settled on anything yet? This tentative schedule sounds good, and not too expensive, but my husband has points to stay at a Holiday Inn. Other than that, downtown sounds good!

Since TooCool proposed the event and likes the weekend of July 2nd, let's nail that down as the date. If people can come great, if not, we'll plan another one soon.

soooooo, July 2nd, going once.... going twice....

Don't know if I can stay the whole weekend, but I'll be there for at least the Saturday!

OK, so it looks like the July 2 weekend is a go.

*Now* let's talk schedule.

No matter what we do or where we decide to go, it will be a great opportunity to learn from each other. I went on a trip last year to Dayton Ohio with a bunch of folks from the other DPC and it was a blast.

There has been interest expressed both for downtown activities as well as more nature oriented stuff. Later today, I'll start to keep track of our responses in a nice easy to read table at //www.soasoas.com/dpc when we get a list going. Here is a start of suggestions. You are now limited to discussing things possibilities in the Chicago Metro area. :)

Downtown Citywalk (Day)
Downtown Citywalk (Evening)
Navy Pier (fireworks at night)
Architectural Boat Tour
Morton Aboretum
Chicago Botanic Gardens
Museums
- Shedd Aquarium
- Field Museum
- Science & Industry
- Peggy Notebart Nature Museum (has Butterfly garden)
whatever festivals are going on that weekend
Portrait sessions with each other

Reply to this post with a Y or N next to these suggestions, as well as any others you'd like us all to consider. I will also revise my page with confirmed attendees. I'll start with anyone who said yes to the July 2 weekend, even if you can only be there for 1 day. Anyone else is welsome to come for whatever portion they can attend.

Maybe a few of the locals can give us an idea of what is good to photograph as well, in regards to your list, Dave. Because I have no idea what is what, or which I would rather go to. I liked the idea of the downtown walk, because I have not been to Chicago. And, I like the nature stuff, like the botanical gardens, and the nature museum. And, I like architecture also (that boat tour). So, I guess I can't decide! Any help would be appreciated!

I say yes to all outdoor activities and no to museums if it's nice outside. If it's kinda nasty, reverse that!

Lookin' forward to seein' ya all and hopefully trying out some of your awesome glass! :-)

Sorry...the awesome glass won't work on your Canon, but you can try out an awesome Nikon. ;-)

I agree though...outdoor stuff and no museums, if it's nice.

So, how are we going to work this; anyone have a good place to meet, initially?

The list is great. I am not sure if we could cover everything in two days! We have to realize that this is the July 4 weekend so there are lots of things going on. July 3 evening is the huge city fireworks display, and there's also the Taste of Chicago.

The architectural foundation boat tour or any other river boat tour is a wonderful way to see Chicago in a short time (about two hours) and photography is amazing. Much of the architecture along the river are not seen any other way - the lake part of the tour you will see the whole skyline. The docents are quite knowledgeable too. We have to reserve in advance though (for the Chicago Architectural Foundation). I'll find out the schedule for this if people are amenable to this.

Darlin' I didn't even sign up here until after we got back. ;) If it makes you feel better I'll wave next time we are in the area.

You should be able to nab some lovely shots up in those areas. There's definitely some beautiful country here.

So, what brings you all way up here? No ones comes to the U.P.

Psst - Bring a BIG can of OFF if you'll be out in the woods. The ticks are out in full force and the skeeters are awful, too.

OOOH another Michigander. I think most of the others are trolls like me too. The skeeters are bad here too. So's the poison ivy, like every other plant, it grew like crazy with all the rain.

How should we procede with this? Have we lost people? I need a little bit of time before hand to set up a hotel and such, so...

-Danielle

BTW-I agree with the walk downtown, and being outside if it is nice. The boat ride sounds good too!

All - I updated my page - //www.soasoas.com/dpc - with people who I believe are confirmed for attendence. If you said "Yes" to Jul 2 availability, please RSVP with a definite answer about whether you will attend (even part of the weekend counts!)

I have marked all the "Yes" people as "Official Maybe" unless I have heard otherwise from you. RSVP ASAP, please.

Here is a proposed schedule:

Friday night:
- meet up and hang out at Navy Pier

Saturday:
- get up *early* to get some downtown shots in cool lighting and before the crowds come rolling in
- do some city walking and Architectural boat tour
- have lunch somewhere fun
- fight the crowds at Taste of Chicago and Millenium Park (?)
- watch the fireworks that begin at 7:30pm

Sunday:
- go up north to Chicago Botanical Gardens

sound good?

Sounds good to me.

For the boat tour, we need to reserve ... so let me know who's up for it and what time so I can walk over to the Architectural Foundation office and reserve space. It's usually a 2 hour pleasant ride.

what is the cost of this one? I have nbeen on the Wendella boats which are nice, but not as long as the Architectural Foundation tour.

Also, can I get some cell phone numbers from people (you can email me if you don't want to post it, or let me know if it is OK to post it)

I am a bit lite on funds and also may have to work Friday nite (since all my managers appear to be taking the time off also) so I may have to come down Sat Morning. If you get cell #'s I can call and find out where to meet up with y'all Sat morning! I'm PM'ing you with my cell # next.
