Morton's, Gibson's, and Lawry's (Lawry's is prime rib joint, not steaks - very good, old school service).

I do suggest Morton's ... they have a fine selection of steaks and seafood too.

Other choices may be:

The Brazilian Foca de Chao (spelling) on La Salle St. - truly a meat eater's paradise - ALL YOU CAN EAT - steaks, chops, chicken, grilled South Brazilian style, served by gauchos who come to your table every five minutes or so to offer these delectable selections plus a mile long salad bar. It's a little bit pricey (about 50 bucks for dinner, 30 bucks for lunch) but you can stay as long as you like :-).

For real Argentine steaks, there's Tango Sur on Southport.

I'm trying to summarize this thread and get a mechanism up where we can better nail down a date. I have this posted so far at

I will be adding a form to let individuals indicate which weekends this summer would work or not work and then we can pick from the ones that would have the most participants.

Dave

David, great work likewise.

For the fireworks display at Navy Pier, if anyone is so inclined to take photographs those, here is the schedule:

06/02/2004-09/04/2004
Wed. at 9:30 p.m.; Sat at 10:15 pm

Holiday fireworks include May 29 at 10:15PM; May 30 at 9:30 pm; July 4 at 9:30pm; September 5 at 9:30pm.

The city of Chicago will host fireworks on July 3 and July 31 at 9:30 pm. These shows are viewable from Navy Pier.

I'm game anytime except the last weekends ( 21 and 28) of August. If Chicago is indeed our chosen destination, I will be able to host 1 individual (sofa bed) and additional 1 (couch) from out of town. For anyone interested coming in to photograph anytime outside the minicon schedule, PM me and I will surely meet up with you when my schedule permits. I live near Loyola University at Chicago's northside.

Thank you for the Steak House reccomendations. I beleive that Morton's is on the short list, but it is always good to get personal reccommendations. My personal choice would likely be Lawry's, simply because I am a Prime Rib fan......but I've never said "no" to a good Porterhouse. Thanks again.

I did forget about Morton's very nice.

I'm good for any weekend except the one of the 26th... And I'm game for any shooting sprees that involve very tall buildings or very big lakes!

Couple of Chicago shots from last Summer :

I can't help but make this suggestion...

Instead of Chicago, why not come up to Wisconsin? Within 30 miles you have Lake Geneva, the Racine Harbor, Chain of Lakes State Park, the Richard Bong State Recreation area -- and many beautiful things in between! Plus, Milwaukee is only 30 miles out then and offers more photo ops better than anywhere else I know... I grew up going to Heritage Fest and personally I couldn't stomach it again!

You can get very inexpensive hotels up here and there is much more to see! Just a thought... Lots of lakes : )

I gotta agree with Renee on this one. I live in Racine and I must say, the Harbor is gorgeous at sunrise. There are lots of festivals going on all summer long and I for one would love to see those kinds of human-interest shots result from your gathering. Skyscrapers are remarkable testaments to human accomplishment, but capturing the human spirit is something this site could use a bit more of (IMHO). That notwithstanding, your stay would be much less of a headache if you gathered in Wisconsin, and if you really want to spend a day in Chicago proper, you could always stay in Kenosha where you can catch a Metra train right into the Loop. You'd get a taste of both worlds with less hassle and, no doubt, less expense.

Just thought I'd throw my 2 cents into the mix even though I'm not a photographer and wouldn't be joining in. I just think southeast Wisconsin is a great location and should be at least considered.

Actually, I do read the forums. =] I just haven't replied to this thread yet because my schedule is very tentative right now, so I don't even know which dates I can commit to. But I am potentially interested in a midwest get-together, depending on what is planned where and when. (My suggestion would be for Michigan's upper pennisula and Mackinac Island, but I realize that is a pretty long drive from the Chicago area. =)

I am from michigan, and would love to go, but I am not sure that I could convince my family. My sister lives in chicago though, so that would be more convenient. My husband works a lot, I would have to check what his schedule would be. I will get back with you.

HIGH SPEED FERRY between Muskegon, MI and Milwaukee, WI -- only three hours one way -- makes Milwaukee/Kenosha/Racine look really interesting!

You can skip the hectic drive through Chicago...

I just made my reservation today on this ferry for a July trip the other way when my son and I go backpacking in Manistee Nat'l Forest in Michigan this summer.

There's also the SS Badger car ferry between Ludington, MI and Manitowoc, WI... (it's a bigger ship and takes 4 hours though)
