Things are going to be a little crazy at the office the next few days, so I went and jumped the gun with the Sears 200/3.5. :-)

This is one of our couple of kittens, Camo Cat.
I like this lens for it's speed and shallow DOF at close range. This was from about 3 ft in shade.
iso 200 @ 1/350, f1.8 (lens has no aperture) hand held,
120mm f1.8 / 35mm movie projector lens, on Fuji S3 Pro. Basic edit.

Another eBay acquisition...Sears M42 Bellows. Came in yesterday. Set it up tonight to try it out with my Sears 55/1.4 M42 mounted.

These (same shot - one converted to B&W) are with the bellows rail set to 1.5x, with the 55/1.4 set at F2.8.

That's a cool looking rig. I have a bellows too. Maybe I should break it out for this challenge too. I have seen macro with a 20mm or so, wide angle lens and bellows, and it seems to work great. I use mine for copying slides, using a manual 55mm Micro Nikkor, which is a flat field lens.

A bellow for a 20mm lens??
With wide angle lenses, any extension mean (rings, bellow) would very quickly reduce the minimal focus distance. My guess is that by using a bellow on a 20mm lens, even the bellow size (not extended) would reduce the minimal focus distance as much as you would be required to put your subject INSIDE the lens (ie closer to the sensor than the front element).

In this picture (21mm lens) using only 2mm of extension already reduced significantly the focus distance (even if it is far from macro), so with 2cm of non-extended bellow...

If you want, you can already experiment with the m42 "built-in extension" ability: most m42 lenses need to be screwed by about 2.5 rotations so unscrew them by up to 2 rotations, and you have 2mm of extension while the lens is still hold onto the mount by 0.5 turn/rotation.

My adapter for the canon hasn't arrived yet. So here is an older one taken with the sony a2oo with the cunor F5.5 300mm + 2x converter

mounted on a monopod

My adaptor is in the mail. I hope it gets here soon, I want to use my old lenses.

So far I like what I see here. Very nice indeed.

That's a cool tip - Thanks!

With the weather, and losing power for 4 days, there's not been much time for "playing". I did sit at the dining room table and grab some shots of the bird feeder out the window last Friday.

These were all shot with the Sears 135/2.8 M42 lens. It was quite grey and overcast outside...I've adjusted levels and boosted contrast some in these. Edited on my laptop...

I owned one of these back in the day, used it when I was photographing on the sidelines of Chargers games in the late 70's/early 80's, back around there somewheres. I wish I still had it, it was wonderful :-)

Ok. We need some photos! :-) Guess I'll have to take this newest addition for a spin tomorrow. :-D My Sears M42 collection is now complete.

Last one to round it out is the 28/2.8 -->

Apologies, I have not posted yet with my crappy cheap helios 55mm f2 Russian beast, I was hoping to get a wonderful Zeis 135mm f3.5 but no joy as yet. I will shoot a few with the Rusky lens and post em up.

Left a couple comments. It would have been interesting to see the takumar and vivitar shots taken in the same light for comparison purposes. I like the shot of Jasper. The color result is unique when viewed fullsize.

The takumar and vivitar shots were taken within 15 mins of each other the difference being in the camera settings the
vivitar on manual the takumar shutter priority will try testing them in the next few days on the same settings.

I recently dusted off my trusty Pentacon MTL 5B/Pentacon 1.8/50 M42 body and lens and shot a roll of Ilford Pan F+ Iso 50.
Here are two shots from that roll:

This challenge made me think about getting some of that nice Zeiss glass for my Pentacon...mmmhh

I absolutely LOVE that 2nd photo! Very nice.

Do you have a film scanner (negatives) or are you scanning the actual print?

Thanks! And yes, I do have a film scanner. It's actually a flatbed (Canon Canoscan 8800F) but has an integrated transmitted light unit at the size of 22x6,5cm so it scans medium format film as well.
It's not the Porsche of film scanners but decent enough for what I do (mostly web). If I want prints from my negs I lock myself inside the darkroom for a few hours...:-)
