And if you stand in front of me, I may macro your shoes or your nose.

I agree with your post, but I believe there is a limit on COMMERCIAL EXPLOITATION of those images; unless you are a "public figure" the photographer is supposed to get a release from you for other than personal or journalistic use. However, I agree there's no real limit on their taking the photo, just what uses they're allowed to make of it later.

And there ARE rare cases where the mere knowledge of a kid's being in some particular place IS hazardous, for example in a custody dispute or stalking situation, where the kid and custodial parent have relocated to avoid harassment.

I therefore encourage all teachers to exempt from field trips any kids whose family is in a witness-protection program or has a restraining order in effect ... otherwise I suggest nicely asking if you can have a copy of the photo for your school newspaper or yearbook.

GeneralE beat me to it. I was just going to point out saftey/security issues for the children, but also for perhaps their hiding parents.
I was always asked to take my camera along to take pictures during field trips I chaperoned, but we always double checked the list to be sure none of the children were on the "do not photograph" list. One time there was a child on the list. I had to be sure to not include that child in any of the photographs.
It's all about respect for others.

I definitely agree about commercial exploitation. I wouldn't want people to SELL pictures of my 3 y/o without a model release. But they aren't legally allowed to anyways. I'm just saying we should at least be able to do what IS legal and take the shot.

I have to get that on a Tshirt. That is the funniest thing I've read in a long time.
