I think it's a wasted vote. Not foolish but wasted. I usually go with the lesser of two evils or the scumbag that's appears to be on my side...? |
yea, it is wasted. so we get to either waste a vote or perpetuate the system. |
Well, you can support the best candidate, even if that person is pretty lowly, and once elected you bring as much pressure to bear as possible to push that person in a better direction. For example, you can write letters to your senators and representatives about this Supreme Court decision, letting them know where you stand and what you think they should do about it. You can join political organizations that lobby Congress. And anything else within the law that you can think of. You don't have to just sit back and accept your victim status. |

votes for third party candidates are NOT wasted!!!
The higher the percentage a third party candidate gets, the more of a message it sends, the more funding that party can get, etc. etc.
Bull Moose Party
Ross Perot's whatchamacallit party
Green Party
Tea Party
the more votes these parties get, the more they can do to influence things. winning an election is only part of the battle. |

As I usually do in these threads â€Â¦ I vote for Instant Runoff Voting!
Originally posted by posthumous: The US has two political parties. The purpose of both parties is to protect the interests of the rich and powerful.
The Republicans do it openly and use "trickle down" theory to justify it.
The Democrats lie about it.
The voters get to go to the polls and pick one. I almost always pick Democrats because at least their lying makes them vulnerable. But sometimes when I'm particularly disgusted, like when Clinton ran for re-election, I vote third party.
And they tell us that third party voters are foolish. Yeah, right. |

Not on the planet Earth.
Anderson tanking Jimmy Carter and Nader contributing to the loss of Al Gore didn't accomplish shizzle in the way of any making any statement BUT they both put us back a few steps towards being Cavemen.
BTW what ever happened to Ross Perot? I need to call him and tell him he was absolutely right about that "sucking sound" of jobs being vacuumed away from the USA by way of cheap labor. It was actually a pretty good message but nobody really heard it.
eta: If the Tea Party puts up it's own Candidate(s)... and NOT Republican, lets see what happens.

Now, they have to accept more money from the rich and powerful just to compete. |
The problem is a lack of transparency in general and an unwillingness by the media to accurately describe who the politicians represent. If we can't have politicians wearing the corporate logos we can certainly display them on the news right beside the letter R or D.

Great. "My evil corporation isn't as bad as your evil corporation."
Anyway, some news programs (Fox) can't even get the R - D right. But I digress. |

Well it's only a mistake if it happens randomly but it seems to only negatively affect the democratic party... Speaking of Fox, where would they be without visual communication? I wouldn't discount it at all. |

Speaking of politics and money, here's an interesting factoid:
from Yahoo News: The Republican National Committee's most recent (March 20) report to the Federal Election Commission showed that the RNC had $9.5 million in cash on hand.
The Democratic National Committee had $425,000 in cash.
