Edit: Ok....after about 6 weeks of research and extra manual labor in addition to my indoor job, I just ordered the lens from BH. It will be here Friday. It will just about pay for itself on my first paid gig in March - (I really needed this lens for this indoor job).
I'll see you Friday.

Ok...I'm about to order the 24-70 f2.8 Nikon Lens. I worked a side job for four days to get this baby.
Just a few more questions:
Why is it that this lens sells for $1700+ and my 70-200 f2.8 is selling new for around $1000? What is the difference in these lens' that affect that price gap?
I'll be selling my 80-200. The only thing wrong with it is that the "ring" where you set manual/autofocus crack and fell off. The auto/manual is still functional, you just have to push two buttons in with your fingers instead of pushing the ring and turning the ring. I can't seem to find any shop that sells this part. A local shop says it may be impossible to get.
Someone on ebay will likely get a very good deal on this lens if that missing ring brings the price down.
Oh well....
EDIT: it is an 80-200...I fixed the error !

I'll take a few shots of the lens and post a link.
I just checked ebay and it looks like mine would be just about the only game in town right now.
Check later for the pics of the lens.

Here's a link to the photo of the lens. The yellow circle is where the "ring" is missing. Instead of the ring, with one button and a twist to go from manual to auto, you have to push two little metal tabs forward. You can see one of the tabs in this photo. Once in place, the tabs don't seem to slip. I used it for about 150 photos of a play using this method and it worked fine.
The local auth. Nikon store here said he may not be able to get the part but looks like cost would be $15-$20.
I'm currently looking online for the part.
I'll likely put this on ebay and put a minimum of about $400 and see what happens. Anything less than that and I would just as well keep it myself !

| LOL....looks like this may still be under warranty! However, this would mean sending the lens somewhere...right? I've read around the net that this is a common problem and that the repair is about $150.00 w/o warranty. They say it requires a lens dismantle!?!?! I can't believe that this is true b/c mine simply had one tiny screw holding it on if I recall. There was nothing "internal" about this part. |
