How do you live without spot metering mode? I don't understand why Canon didn't put 'spot' on Rebel if even my S50 has it. Do you use bracketing, set up exposure manually or use external meters for the situation when spot measurement is needed?

All my photos come out overexposed. I've just begun getting used to having to underexpose everything.

Well, I have the 10D, not the reb, but the situation is the same. They both have what is referred to as "partial spot". I really don't see a problem, as long as you take into account the spot size. I rarely want to meter on something smaller than the metering spot size. A smaller spot meter si far down my list of desired improvements.

If you hit exposure lock the metering is taken from the area three AF points across and three down - as a cross in the centre of the viewfinder. This is as close to spot metering that Canon provide and in truth works fine if you need to expose for a particular area. I usually still bracket a little when using it but it's a great guide and is acurate enough.

There are three metering modes in all .....

Which do you use as your default?

I have messed around with them all with very varying results.
